"My day is always cool and in most cases I spend it indoors since there are no farm work and also my husband has assumed my role of fetching water from a water pan which takes him one hour to come back using a bicycle. I usually prepare our first meal in the afternoon and share together with my children. In the evening, I get more time with my husband when he is off from his tiresome day's activities where we chat and share our dinner together. Therefore, I consider evening being the happiest part of my day."

"Receiving this money means creating multiple sources of income for me and my family. We plan to set up shop in Bamba center and make it more unique by doing house deliveries to our clients in order to attract more customers. To achieve this, my husband will buy a motorcycle on hire purchase to help with the deliveries and also for transporting people. With the money earned from these two businesses, we will be able to cater for food, water, pay for my college fees, clear the motorcycle balance and also save a bit. "

"My life is currently different from how it was four months ago in that I have been able to build a house for my family. The one we were previously living in was grass thatched and replacing the old roof every year is always costly. At times, our clothes and beddings would get soaked in rainwater during rainy seasons when I did not have money to renovate the roof. I am now glad since my family is now living comfortably in our newly built house."

"The biggest difference in my life is that I am happy and less worried about lacking water. The water tank has really helped to have clean water for use at home and for food. I am glad there are fewer cases of waterborne disease as previously was the case. I am also glad that I will soon be living in a more decent and spacious house that I built with the help of the transfers."

"Receiving this money will enable me to buy a dairy cow that will in turn support me in providing basic needs such as food and cloths for my family as well as paying school fees for my two children in primary school. Buying a 200 litre water tank is also part of my plans since this will ensure that i harvest enough water for family use whenever it rains thus lessening the task of going miles away in search of water during dry seasons."

"My life has greatly changed after I received transfers from GiveDirectly since I currently live in an iron-roofed house that could not have happened if it was not for GD. I majorly depend on farming and hardly found casual jobs in our area. My family needs have been overwhelming that I could not invest or do extra development in the family other than taking care of the basic daily basic needs. I had a dream to build a decent iron-roofed house but the scare resource couldn't allow me hence I had to spend much of my time maintaining our grass-thatched houses. My life is currently different from how it would have been if I never received the transfer in that I currently feel so proud and happy since I also live in an iron-roofed house. I have bought a water tank that will help me harvest water during rainy season hence I will not be spending much time as I do currently to fetch water and I will have clean water at my doorstep for my domestic use. I am happy for this and I have hopes of good future now that I have built a house and I have cows and goats that I will look after to help me in future as my security for any needs arising. I feel GiveDirectly has given me a good foundation for my family."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying a second-hand motorcycle at KES 35000. I believe it will help me in fetching water from the dam which is very far from my home. Previously I used to carry heavy jerrycans which were very tiresome. I had even started having back pains as a result of this. I am happy I will not have to carry water anymore. Apart from that, I will also be earning income from this business. It will be used in transporting goods and a means of transport to people in our village. In addition to that, I also bought five goats at KES 12500. I am planning to sell the offsprings when they mature and buy a pair of oxen in the near future. I decided to expand my business of selling some vegetables with the remaining amount of money."

"I usually spend the better part of my day doing house work. When I wake up, I prepare my children to school and thereafter, I clean my compound and leave to fetch from the nearby water tank. When I am back, I prepare our lunch meal when it is available. In the evening, all my children would have come home from school. It is at this time when I get ample time to chat and share meals together. Therefore, I consider this being the happiest part of my day."
