"I spent part of the first transfer to purchase a bicycle so as to help me in fetching water because our region is currently faced by water shortage and we are forced to travel for many kilometres in search of water from pans. The bicycle is currently of great importance to me for its a good means of fetching water over long distances. It can carry many gallons in large capacity with minimum effort as compared to carrying on my own. I also cleared school fees that were outstanding for my children to comfortably stay in school. In addition to this, I purchased a pair of oxen that will help me as I do my farming . I was previously cultivating a small piece of land because hiring to me was a challenge for I could not meet the cost. Getting my own pair will enable me to cultivate a bigger piece of land and get enough food to feed my family. I will also be hiring to my neighbours during the planting season and earn an income. I spent the rest of the money to buy food and new school uniforms for my children because their uniforms were worn out."

"In my opinion, GD did so well transfer cash to me which enabled me construct a house. Secondly, These transfers have helped me manage to repair my bicycle which we use for fetching water since where I get water from is too far like 3 km. GD transfers also helped me acquire household items, Utensils and Bed. I used this money for feeding my household since we are in a dry season and food is too scarce and very expensive. In my view, GD did so well and I never saw any loopholes in their mode of operations."

"My life has changed in many ways in the positive direction. After buying a water tank and connecting water into our compound travelling for long distances in search of this very essential commodity has been a thing of the past. I have now devoted the time that I would have otherwise used in search for water to do other reasonable things like farming that in the long run has seen me raise an extra income to support my family. My level of cleanliness has equally risen as I now have plenty of water to do any form of cleaning in my compound. This difference has been brought about by the GiveDirectly transfers that I received."

"Clean water has been almost impossible to get to due to the recurrent drought in our area. To avoid thirst or using dirty water, I bought a large plastic water tank that will store rainwater from the roof of my houses. This has made me a more reliable water source unlike before when I would have to take water from an open bond. The water in the bond is collected from runoff which means it is not safe for drinking. Soring rainwater is one big leap away from the water problems."

"Give Directly came to our village when we needed urgently needed the assistance. It was a dry season and most households were starving due to lack of food. We have been experiencing a drought for some time and obtaining food and water is usually a big task in such periods. Sometimes children would only come home and drink water during lunch hour and get back to school. This affected their grades negatively, their health also deteriorated due to lack of enough food. The coming of this institution lessened the gravity of the situation at that moment."

"I sued my transfer on buying groundnut seeds which never had for this coming season. I also bought a bicycle because I did not own any and transportation was difficult and very expensive. I as well bought a solar system because I was so tired of buying small torches to use in the night as a source of energy. I decided to buy household items like utensils, clothes and a pot for drinking water. In addition to that I bought an ox that I will use for plowing when the season begins. I decided to save some money that I will use during the farming period."

"My life is different now in that, I sleeping in a complete iron roofed house. I built this house sometime back and was unable to complete it due to lack of finances. I did not have a bicycle for ferry water from the borehole which was too far from home but after receiving this money I decided to purchase one. I'm now self employed because I ride my motorbike which I bought using GD transfers and when I have an emergency, This bike has helped me a lot handle such cases. Prior to receiving this money, I had cursed my life and had no hope in life because I have a family of two children, orphans of my brother and my wife. Each day I used to wonder doing casual labor to earn money that can support my family. I'm so grateful because life has tremendously changed courtesy of GD transfers."
