"Being a house wife, I usually spend the better part of my day doing house work. When I wake up in the morning, I prepare my children to school, and leave to go and fetch water from the nearby pan. In the afternoon hours, I mostly assist my husband in preparing the reeds to be used in making the buskets. My evening is always full of joy due to the presence of my children who would have come back home from school. Therefore, I consider evening as the happiest part of my day. "

"The biggest difference in my daily life ever since Give Directly came into our village is that I was able to finally buy a goat. I have wanted to buy a goat for a long time now but due to financial constraints, I was forced to postpone my plan of buying it. This is a big breakthrough for me because It is the most valued asset in this region. It is held with great value because of the benefits such as reproducing twice a year and it less demanding in terms of getting food, water or attention. It can basically flourish in any climatic condition. I plan to sell the goats in the future especially when met with emergencies. It can also come in handy when I need capital to start a new project."

"Lack of alternative sources of income has been the biggest hardship in my life. Here, we depend on livestock raising and subsistence farming as a source of income. And because of harsh climatic conditions, in most cases, we are unable to get adequate maize yield from the farm, this forces us to purchase maize flour from shops, something that is costly. Again when it comes to livestock, we spend most of our time searching for pasture and water kilometers away. Once I receive this money I will be able to venture into other ways of generating income. Opening up a shop is what I have in mind. This is something that I have always desired to have but lack of adequate resources is what has been the hindrance. "

"My next goal for the next four months is to save part of my transfers with the purpose of buying a big water tank. I always feel like I am wasting a lot of time walking a long distance in search of water. Since I recently joined a merry go round after I started receiving the transfers from Give Directly, I believe that I will get a good amount of money when my turn comes. I will combine the savings and finally buy the water tank"

"My life is currently relaxed because I have cultivated food crops for commercial purposes. I believe the watermelons will make profits and the returns will take care of the family requirements. Prior to receiving the cash transfer, life was unpredictable. I did not have money to practice agriculture on a large scale. More so, I could not pay my children's school fees on time. However,I do believe the watermelons will make profits and these returns will take care of the family requirements. I commend GiveDirectly for this kind gesture and initiative."

"Evening is the happiest part of my day. Usually, I wake up very early in the morning to prepare children for school. Thereafter, I attend to household chores and the hardest part is drawing water from water pan which is over five kilometers away. My day is always strenuous and it is only in the evening when my children are back from school that I get time to rest. We usually share dinner together and that makes all of us happy."

"When I wake up in the morning, I clean my compound, prepare breakfast for myself when it is available and leave to work at my farm. I usually spend the better part of my day working and come home at around two o'clock in afternoon. Being tired, I am also forced to go and fetch water from a pan which is almost two kilometers away. This makes me feel exhausted when it comes in the evening, but still it is at this time when I can get time to rest. Therefore, I consider evening as the happiest part of my day."

"My usual day involves going to the farm in the morning to weed maize, beans and some vegetables in my farm. In the afternoon i engage myself in household chores like washing clothes and going to the river to fetch water. I am usually happy in the evening after completing the day's work since its the only time i get to rest after a long day."

"I spent KES 30000 of the transfer in the purchase of a pair of oxen. It has been my desire to have my own oxen which would facilitate my farming. I have always been forced to hire these services from neighbours for a long time now, occasionally during the planting season which seemed expensive. Also, I have been using hoes to till the land which was ineffective with larger acreage. Having my own pair will enable me to increase my acreage for better harvests. I am also assured of doing my cultivation early and timely. In addition to the pair of oxen, I spent a portion of the transfer to buy 300-litre water storage tank. Currently, we are faced with a water shortage, thus having better storage is economical in ensuring adequate water is available when needed. Lastly, I spent the remaining amount of the transfer to provide daily foodstuffs for my family and in meeting other household expenses."
