"As a separated jobless person I feel that the transfer will really kick start my life. I live in the boundary of residential land and the forest land. The forest is really helpful in terms of animal keeping but I currently own 3 goats only. I could wish to buy a cow and add some goats. An average cow costs KES 28000 and a goat KES 6000. I am happy because if I will be able to buy the animals, I will no longer be depending on crop production only."

"My main occupation is livestock farming which has been the source of income for my family. I have been doing this economic activity for the past ten years and I do not regret because my family of seven has been relying on it for all the upkeep. On receiving this money, I wish to buy one goat on monthly basis for a period of ten months. I will spend 2000 KES on purchasing it. I plan to save at least 500 KES for three months so that I can start a small business of selling vegetables and other home care products. I believe all these investments will go along way in providing a reliable source of income for my family. The rest of the money will be spent on buying food and clothes."

"My main occupation is livestock rearing and it has been the source income for the past 15 years. Due to the drought we experienced last year some of my livestock died but thank God the rains came in time and there is plenty of pasture and water in the village. Upon receiving this money I plan to buy two goats at a total of cost 2,0000 KES on monthly basis then I can exchange them for cattle in future. This will serve as a fixed assets and source of income for my family of eight. I will also spend some money on school fees for my 4 children who are in primary school. The rest of the money will be spent on food."

"My family of three has been living in a grass thatched house which is leaking during rain seasons. The walls are also damaged and it is always cold during the nights. Getting this transfer from GiveDirectly would mean I renovate my house by buying new iron sheets which will cost 20000 KES and also a bed and mattress. This would bring happiness and comfort within my family. I will also buy goats ten goats in 6 months time by saving some 1000 KES monthly. I plan to spend the rest of the money on food and school fees for my two children who are in primary school."

"My family of three has been living in a damaged house for the last two years. It becomes worse whenever it rains as the roof is leaking. My husband who works as a casual labourer and I have been saving the little income we get but due to the ever increasing costs of basic needs such as food it became almost unsuccessful. Upon receiving this money transfer from GiveDirectly I plan to start saving for about five months then I buy new iron sheets as well as a bed and a mattress for my family. I believe through this I will have achieved the needed comfort for my family as well as peace of mind as we will be sleeping in a decent place. The renovation will cost 12000 KES. I also plan to buy 5 goats to start livestock rearing at home which I am hopeful it will serve as a source of income for the family in future. The rest of the money will be spent on food and clothes."

"Livestock farming thrives very well in this area. It is through goat keeping that I managed to support my daughter's education up to the high school level. Still having 4 other children to educate, livestock production is the most viable investment for me to support them. Once I start receiving the funds, I will make it my monthly duty to purchase a 2,000 KES goat for 10 months. With these animals, school fees will no longer be a strain on me. I will be raising tuition fees for my young ones through goat selling. Therefore, receiving this money will help me secure my children's education future."

"I want to own a house, to have a home I can live in comfortably with my three children. I separated from my husband many years ago and I had to come back to my maternal home, I had nowhere else to go. My grandmother gave me a room in her big house but I feel I have overstayed. I want to build a two-roomed house and the only way I can do this is if I set aside 1500 KES from the transfers monthly till I have enough money to kick off the project, my budget is 50000 KES. As I save the 1500 KES the other half will go towards food and other basic needs. Once I have my house I will then think of investing in livestock, and buy a few herds of goats and a cow."

"I have taken the time to think of how I will spend this money and what keeps coming to mind is investing in livestock and poultry. Own 20 herds of goats, raise them, and exchange them for cows. I can then sell the cows and use the money to educate my children. To achieve this I will be buying a goat every month for 2000 KES, and the remaining 1000 KES I will use for domestic use. I am excited that I will be able to make two investments, that is livestock and still educate my three children in primary school."

"I desire to own as many goats as I can. At the moment I plan to buy a kid goat every month with the transfers. One kid sells for 1,300 KES, the remaining amount I will use to buy food and other personal items. In between, I will save some amount and buy two cows to help plow my farm. The strength I used to have is no more and the cows will come in handy."

"All I want is to renovate my house, the iron sheets are worn out and I fear the structure might fall soon. I need 22 iron sheets and several pieces of wood to erect pillars. This might cost 20000 KES. The plan is to set aside at least 1500 KES every month to buy iron sheets and to commence this project. The remaining 1,500 KES I will spend on food and school fees. I have six children and one wife who are under my care. Once my house is remodeled I will invest in livestock raising. I want to own 10 goats, 5 sheep, and 1 cow. At the moment I do not have any livestock, they all died from the previous drought. The current market price for a kid goat is 2,000 KES and for a sheep is 1300 KES. This will be my next project."
