"Owning goats for domestic rearing has been my priority for so long. I am planning to use the GiveDirectly transfers to buy goats and I will be doing this on a monthly basis. Goats do well in my village and owning them will be a plus to my economic revival after the tough economic conditions attributed by the Covid 19 pandemic. I will further use KES 20,000 to start a grocery in the village. The profits from my grocery will be able to sustain my family of four."

"Receiving this money means self-employment to me. I am a mother of 5 children, 3 already enrolled in school. It is my responsibility to ensure they access good education. Being jobless, raising school fees is and will still be a problem if I do not come up with a proper sustainable plan. Having a little bit of experience in livestock production, I intend to buy 5 goats at 2,500 KES each. By the time my children are joining high school and other higher institutions of learning, my animals will be many, enough to raise the school fees through their sales."

"The greatest desire of every parent is to see the children have a successful life. I believe this can only be achieved through good education. Receiving this money will help me support my children in their academics. I have 4 children who are still schooling. Raising their school fees is always very challenging. This is because I do not make a lot of money from my charcoal-burning business. I approximately make 2,000 KES per month. Food consumption consumes this entire amount. This leaves me with nothing to pay for their school fees. I am planning to use 20,000 KES to purchase 10 goats as my store wealth. The livestock will gradually reproduce and I will be selling them to clear the tuition fees for my little ones."

"Upon receiving my transfer, I prioritised purchasing a parcel of land worth KES 25,000. This is because the current family land was very little for us to share, My father sold most of it due to school fees and the responsibilities of our younger siblings. So I was unable to acquire one before since I am a Boda Boda rider thus my source of income is not reliable. I thereafter bought a goat worth KES 5000 and lastly, I bought foodstuffs and other household items with the remaining amount of the money. I am so grateful for the great milestone that changed my living standards amazingly."

"Upon withdrawing the money, the first thing I did was buying a bale of maize flour so as to have some food at home. I also bought two goats for KES 7000.00 so as to have a remembrance of GiveDirectly in my life. I also paid some school fees for my two children who are in college. Thereafter, I bought some building blocks for KES 21000.00. These blocks were for renovating my house because the one I had was collapsing. For the remaining amount, I used it to buy some food for my family."

"I have four children who are in high school and paying their school fees has been an overwhelming task for me. I own a stall at Cheboyo shopping center where I sell githeri ( a mixture of maize and beans boiled together) to locals. This business earns a profit of KES 200-250 per day and this caters for food and other necessities. That means I am not able to save any coin and all along I have been selling family assets like cows and goats to raise school fees. I have arrears amounting to KES 20,000 that I have been unable to pay since last year and this has been my biggest source of stress. I desire to give my children the best education and I intend to use my transfer to clear outstanding arrears. Receiving this money will guarantee me peace of mind because I will not be getting calls from school reminding me to clear the arrears."

"Improving my family's security is basically the main ambition for receiving this money to me. At the moment the house I am living in is not in a good condition. This is because it has a leaking roof, and also it cannot withstand the strong winds around our area. Sometimes, I am scared that, it might fall on me. This has made have a feeling that I should have a better shelter. I am planning to spend KES 60,000 to build a decadent house that will spare me from this nightmare. I will also invest the remaining amount in some indigenous goats that will act as an asset to help me in the future."

"When I withdrew the money, I bought two sacks of maize since food was a priority due to the drought that affected our area and we were almost starving. I also bought 4 goats to mark the beginning of livestock keeping at my home courtesy of GiveDirectly. Thereafter, I bought some cement and blocks to renovate my house by building some pillars to make it more firm. Having done that, I bought some household items and used the remaining amount for the family's needs."

"Improving my son's education is the ambition that I intend to achieve when I receive this money. This is because I am old and jobless depending on charcoal production as the main source of income. It is energy-draining and due to my age, sometimes I have to risk resting so that I recharge. The earning(KES600 per week) is not enough for all the demands of the household. This has pushed me to ensure my child excels in school so that he can get a good employment that is permanent. I am planning to spend the whole of the first transfer to clear all the school fees for his final year so that he can have adequate time for his studies. Besides, I will start livestock farming by keeping indigenous goats that do well in our area as an alternative for crop production which has failed due to little and erratic rains. As they multiply, I will sell at a profit and use the money to cater to my necessities."

"I am a widow living alone and caring for myself. I am keeping a few goats for my daughter. I have seen the benefit of keeping goats as an asset because incase you have a problem, you can sell one of them and solve it. I have known the importance of keeping livestock and I have been dreaming to have mine in life. My house also is very small with mud walls! I have also been thinking of a way out to have a spacious house. I also have a food Crisis in my house. I depend entirely on charcoal burning business which doesn't give me much earnings. I am growing old and my body doesn't allow me to do such straneous jobs but because of the situations of living alone and depending on my own, I have no otherwise. I always think of the problems I have and finally thought to prioritize the idea of having a spacious house and own goats. Receiving this transfers means I will accomplish my dream of having a spacious house. I will rebuild my hut and have a two bedroom house and use the second transfer to buy goats to keep for myself."
