"Most people in my community depend on stagnant water pans for their domestic purposes like livestock and household chores. When they dry up during drought, we are forced to hire motorcycles to go for water in distant rivers. This is often costly when there is no alternative source of income. "

"When I wake up in the morning, I prepare my children to school. Thereafter, I fetch water from the nearby tap. During my lunch hours I prepare our meal and share with my family. Having done that, I leave to collect firewood to be used in the evening. It is only in the evening after dinner where I get ample time rest from the busy day. Therefore, this is the happiest part of my day."

"Before receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I was really struggling a lot in sourcing water both for use in the farm and for domestic purposes. I decided to spend the first 10000 KES of my second transfer on buying an irrigation pump which at the moment is a multipurpose pump. I am using it both in irrigating my small piece of land and pumping water to the cattle troughs. I have stopped walking for long distances in search of water for the livestock since the pump has brought a lot of simplicity. I also bought maize worth 6000 KES, clothing, and mattress worth 24000 KES, household goods and decided to save the remaining 21000 KES since we have a plan to construct a new house in our household."

"My life has transformed in a way because I have been able to pay school fees for my son without struggling like I used to do. Apart from that, I would say that I am now able to pump water for my neighbors and be the main supplier at the village. I am planning to use the water to carry out agricultural activities and probably be able to make some money from being a large scale farmer."

"Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I have my own business. I do not depend on casual jobs like selling water which was unreliable. I have learned to manage it in terms of the variety that the customer needs and how to lure them to buy the clothes which I sell. I can never compare it with the past casual jobs that I have ever done. I thank GiveDirectly very much because I can take care of my needs easily using the profits from the business unlike before."

"My life is currently different in that I am now equal in my living standards to some people I thought I would never be at bar with. I have been able to build a new spacious house and a kitchen. I have also been able to buy a dairy cow that will assist me a long way in meeting the basic household needs. Going to the river to fetch water is now a thing of the past after I was able to buy a water tank."
