"Since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly, the biggest changes in my daily life have been the improvements to my livestock management and the upgrade of my chicken coop. With the financial support received, I was able to fence around my fields, using partitions to control the movement of my cows. This has made it easier to confine the animals and move them to the next partition when they have exhausted the available grass. Additionally, I was able to purchase a new chain-link fence for the chicken coop, along with iron sheets to improve its durability. These changes have made it possible for me to manage my livestock and poultry more efficiently and have had a significant impact on the overall productivity of my farm." "My main goal is to be a driver and have an additional income to support my growing family, therefore, I plan to join a driving school to enable me to attain a truck driving license that would open for me doors of opportunities in the driving field. To achieve my goal, I would be selling and buying more poultry where I plan to sell one at $13 so that the proceeds that I would be getting would be of help in terms of facilitating my driving fees." "For the transfers, I plan to fence my farm which will enable me to plant crops since the rains have come. I plan to use about 50 dollars of the transfers. I also plan to purchase food and clothing which will enable me to live a decent life. For the second and third transfers, I plan to purchase 25 goats at 30 dollars each. This will assure me of having an investment in the future. For the remaining amount of the transfers, I will repair my motorcycle which I will use to do the bodaboda business. The transfers will greatly change my life positively since I will be able to do things that I could not do before."

"As I mentioned earlier I am a motorcycle rider. It has been my source of income for many years but the recent years business has plummeted. I do not make as much as I used before and this has affected my family. However, through GD transfers, I began a business selling chicken which has proven to be much more profitable than my motorcycle business. I would like to expand my business beyond its current capacity. This is something I am planning on working on this year. I want to become a big chicken farmer and through it provide for my family." "Givedirectly gave me a chance to fight for my family again. One and a half years ago I got a motorcycle whose total payment was $2008. I had seen how the business faired in our area and felt I was able to take on this challenge. I was expected to make weekly payments of between $25 and $30 which was doable until work became scarce as the drought had affected everyone. I had accumulated a large interest before GD transfers but when I began receiving GD transfers I reduced this debt burden I have been making monthly payments of $24 from my transfers and I have $190 to go in debt. I was also able to clear my children's school fee balance as well as do any repairs for the motorcycle whenever required."

"Food insecurity is what is making our lives difficult. We were displaced by bandits from Tiati and it scattered our lives and disoriented us, we are still reeling from its effects to date. We came to this village as internally displaced persons and we were given this place to stay by a good Samaritan who understood our plight and offered us a place to live albeit shortly as we look for an alternative. Life has been so miserable for us, all the livestock we had were stolen and we have since been plunged into poverty, especially food poverty. So bad is the situation that it's hard to afford even just a meal ,since yesterday we have never eaten anything safe for the porridge that we gave the young children, Mark you we have 5 children. The eldest ones were not able to go to school today because they are hungry and feeble. The world will forever seem infinitely more sinister and unforgiving for us. Nothing seems to work out and we have lost hope of ever living the good life we desire." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"I dropped out of school for lack of school fees. Since then, I am not able to secure formal employment because I did not complete my studies. I resorted to the brokerage of livestock as a way of earning income. My job is unreliable and seasonal, as result, I hardly save any amount for other things like investments. Financial constraints are the biggest challenge currently." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"While carrying a passenger on my motorcycle taxi as part of my routine, I received a message from GiveDirectly. Since I was occupied with the passenger, I didn't immediately check the message, but later at around 6:00 pm, I found out that I had received the first transfer. I felt excited upon realizing this and tried to contact my spouse, who was also attempting to reach me to inquire about the receipt. I promised to return home earlier that day so that we could discuss our plans for the funds." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"Food access has been a big challenge. Most of our income is channeled towards food which is also expensive. In this village, growing food is hard and especially because of the drought. This has also led to water shortage making it difficult to grow. All this has made it hard getting food, affecting our ability to get adequate food. We mainly depend on the casual job my husband acquired outside the village. This a times may not be enough for our sustainance." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)
