Dominic
received a $392 second payment.
"My goal for the rest of the year is to improve my milk business by feeding the cow better feed and taking better care of it so that I can boost milk output, which will result in more milk and more sales.
I can use my savings later to buy another cow or a motorcycle for the transportation business, depending on how climate change appears at the moment, If we will experience drought, I will opt to buy a motorbike instead."

"After opening a grocery shop, I intend to begin accumulating money in order to purchase a motorcycle before the end of the year.
I intend to use the motorcycle to deliver goods and run personal errands in order to cut transportation costs and increase efficiency.
This will help my grocery business grow and create more income at the same time."

Karisa
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"I have been operating a motorcycle taxi while looking for employment, but it had been less profitable. I constantly have a small amount of cash after paying the owner because the motorcycle belongs to someone. I hope to build my savings and purchase a motorcycle from my subsequent monthly transfers in the upcoming periods. If I succeed to get formal employment, it will serve as a backup source of income. I will easily raise enough money with a motorcycle to support my family. It will significantly lessen the difficulties I have experienced over the past few years."

Jumaa
received a $26 fourteenth payment.
"To be honest, the cash transfers have significantly transformed my family’s welfare over the period. I was able to build a new house for my family and secure goats, all credit to the monthly financial aid. When I got into a motorcycle accident, the same funds helped to pull me out of the medical bill debt at the hospital. As a lay here on the hospital bed with no strength to work, am relieved that my family’s needs are covered through the monthly transfers. More so, I plan to sell some of the livestock I acquired through cash transfers to fully cover my treatment bill. This is what motivates me to invest more through the cash transfers to be guaranteed security, especially during trying times. I wish to have bought more goats in the coming years and beyond. "

Cynthia
received a $409 initial payment.
"I used $35k to purchase a dairy cow. I have three young kids who depend on milk majorly for food and this is so costly. I am happy that the cow will calve soon and could cut the daily milk expenditure. I will as well sell the surplus to earn an extra income.
My children had been ridiculed by their peers for awhile for wearing old torn clothes, so I spent around $80 to buy them new beautiful clothes.
In addition, I used the remaining amount to buy food for my five family members which was a relief to my spouse who has been the breadwinner"

Elizabeth
received a $335 second payment.
"I spent the most recent transfer in different ways to improve my family's livelihood. First, I bought a secondhand motorcycle worth $400, hired a rider, and used it as a taxi, earning a daily income of at least $3. I paid $30 for my son's school fees in Kabarnet and invested the rest in opening a restaurant. The restaurant has been successful, and I have been earning a daily income of at least $5, selling tea, cakes, lunch, and supper. From the savings I have made from the business, I hope to pay school fees for my son, who is currently in grade 9 at Kabarnet Boys. Additionally, I used some of the proceeds to purchase an NHIF medical cover for my family of five. Thanks to the GiveDirectly transfer, my family's standard of living has improved, and we can access basic needs such as education and healthcare."

"We are a family of 5, I am a pastor in the local Pentecostal Assembly of God church, and I also engage myself in the motorcycle business to make ends meet and be able to put food on the table. All my children are school-going and they are in various levels of studies. My daughter, Purity, is in Kuinet Secondary School and it is an uphill task paying her school fees. I have been navigating through the stress of raising the school fees all year, she is currently in Form 3 but it has never been easy. I am halfway glad that the Give Directly cash transfers is in the offing, the idea of it has moved us a great deal. We are so elated that for once we will be able to pay the school fees without a struggle."

"The top of my priority is to secure my compound. I will spend $300 to do fencing. This means I can plant maize, millet, or peas. Giving me food security.
Since I understand well the motorcycle transport business. I plan to further establish myself. On a good day, I can get up to $5 profit. That's from the transport business I do. I need another motorcycle. Will buy a new one, costs about $1500. I have some savings that will boost the remaining transfer amount. I will then use the new motorcycle and employ someone to ride the old one. This will bring me a daily target of $2.50. This will improve my income giving me a better life."

Daniel
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"Although I am a young and single man, I depend on the motorcycle taxi business to earn a living. However, since my mother is a widow with no other source of income, I constantly pitch in to help her raise school fees for my two school-age siblings. With the recent transfer, I spent $30 on paying school fees for my two sisters. Both are currently in form four and form three. Our mother is poor and always relies on the transfer that mainly helps her to buy food for the family. I am glad that I could lend a hand, and my sisters are comfortable in school. I also spent $4 on buying a hen. For the past four months, my spending trend has been on school fees and acquiring at least a hen."

Samson
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"When I joined GiveDirectly's program, I knew I would begin to receive regular financial assistance. With that assurance, I set out a goal to construct a pit latrine in our home, as we had none. I started focusing on this project at the beginning of the year, and I am delighted I have accomplished it in three months. In addition, I intend to start raising goats and cows, as well as poultry farming. These undertakings will benefit me much in the long run as they expand. Although I have never raised other livestock, I am optimistic about the success of poultry farming because I began practicing it a couple of years ago."
