"Receiving this money means continuous availability of water in my compound. I'm planning to use 200 dollars to buy a water storage tank. The drought in my area has led to water shortage forcing me to walk for more than 20km to get water. The storage tank will serve me especially after harvesting water during the rain seasons. I will use 180 dollars to buy two young donkeys @ 90 dollars each. The donkeys will help me in carrying water in case the storage tank runs dry. I'll then use 200 dollars to renovate my house (leaking roof)."

"My children are very young and my house has a leaking roof. Whenever it rains, the house becomes very cold and sometimes our beddings get socked. This has really affected my children's health because I cant afford to buy iron sheets to fix my roof. The land where I built this house also has a high water table and every time during the rainy season ground water fills the fireplace thus making lighting fire for cooking food difficult and sometimes we end up sleeping hungry and cold because the fire can't light. This money will help me build a new decent house with a cemented fireplace to prevent ground water from rising during the wet season. My children also will sleep happily and warm."

"We have lived in this village for the last 30 years and all this time we have never had water at our door step. We get our water from a river 4 kilometers away from here. In 2017, I got an injury on my leg and since then I really struggle to carry my 20 liter jerrycan from the river. Sometimes we even go without clean drinking water in this house which poses a threat to our health. With these transfers I would like to buy a 5000 liter tank and harvest rain water from our roof and this would really help my family."

"Receiving this transfer means that I will be able to cater for the school fees of my five kids. I have one who is in secondary school while the others are in primary level. I will use 20,000 shillings for the one in secondary level while another 20,000 shillings for the others combined. Additionally, I will use 30,000 shillings to build a house for family since the one I have has been infested with mites and also water seeps from the surface due to the nature of the soil in this area(clay soil). I will then equip the house with some furnitures for 5,000 shillings. Finally, I will buy and install a water tank for 20,000 shillings to help supply me with water for domestic use during the dry season."

"Receiving this money will mean shortage of water will be unheard of in my my family. We are facing acute water problem in our region since we experience prolonged period of drought and we are unable to have our own well; this place is rocky. My intention therefore, is to buy water tank of approximately Ksh 30,000 and take advantage of rainy season to tap water. Solving this major problem will be my pride."

"Receiving this money means that I shall afford to purchase and install a water tank. My age has significantly advanced, hence my usual task of carrying a 20-liter jerrican of water is becoming more challenging. Therefore, GiveDirectly's transfer will be much relief to me and a blessing to my family. Having a large water tank for storing rain water means that we shall have adequate volumes of clean water."

"I spend the morning hours in my farm and the rest of the day doing house chores. My afternoon duties include washing utensils, sweeping the compound ,fetching firewood and water. When evening comes,I get to relax and calm my mind. This is usually my opportunity to recollect my mind and think of my future plans. This moment is usually the happiest part of my day."

"I am always happy in the afternoon because this time comes with some rest. In the morning, I engage myself in tedious activities like fetching water and firewood. I also do some weeding on my farm. All these jobs require a lot of effort. The rest that I enjoy in the afternoon is the biggest source of my happiness."

"The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is because I use my morning hours in doing my business of buying and selling milk. I use my afternoon hours in doing my normal household chores which ranges from fetching firewood, water to buying food for my family in the evening. Having time to relax while preparing supper with my family brings a sigh of relieve in my life."
