Zadock
received a $520 second payment.
"I am a farmer, I normally plant vegetables. It has been my source of income for a long time . Due to unpredictable rain patterns and insufficient rains in general, farming has become a game of chance in our area. Before, I didn't have the necessary equipment to facilitate large scale farming despite living 200 meters to the river . Therefore in dry season , I had to make several trips to fetch water to water my vegetables which was time consuming and tiresome. I limited the plantation of vegetable in a small piece of land that would server my household's consumption . My life is different after purchasing a water pump since I employed irrigation where I can now farm even during the dry season. Today, I am a smiling farmer because I cultivate enough vegetables in large scale for my family's use and sale the rest to earn an extra source of income whether in dry or cold rainy seasons."

Lucy
received a $529 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some livestock such as a pair of oxen and three goats. I had been longing to keep them in my compound for a long period of time but I could not afford it. I then started an agricultural project of planting some vegetables. I bought the following for making my project to be a successful one, fertilizers, a variety of seeds, jericans which were purposely for irrigation because it is very dry at my village and a water sprinkler. I had a dream of starting this project for a long period of time but It was costly to me. I am assured of benefiting a lot since I am the only one in my village running such a project. My hope is when the vegetables grow, I will be able to sell them in the markets in large quantities and for my family's consumption as well."

George
received a $22 eighteenth payment.
"In the next four months, I have a new goal of buying a generator. I would want to use the generator to start the irrigation project for tomatoes and onions plantations which I want to start. I would want to have a stable source of income apart from the motorcycle business which I have now. This will change my financial life and help me serve my family."

Christiner
received a $512 second payment.
"Before receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I was really struggling a lot in sourcing water both for use in the farm and for domestic purposes. I decided to spend the first 10000 KES of my second transfer on buying an irrigation pump which at the moment is a multipurpose pump. I am using it both in irrigating my small piece of land and pumping water to the cattle troughs. I have stopped walking for long distances in search of water for the livestock since the pump has brought a lot of simplicity. I also bought maize worth 6000 KES, clothing, and mattress worth 24000 KES, household goods and decided to save the remaining 21000 KES since we have a plan to construct a new house in our household."

Jackline
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"Due to unpredictable rain patterns and insufficient rains in general, farming has become a game of chance in our area and starvation and hike in food prices a common thing. I live near a river and my aim is to make use of it by investing in irrigation where I can farm even during the dry season. My goal, therefore, is to buy a water pump with the money I will receive from the savings in the merry-go-round I am currently saving in to facilitate this. With that, I will cultivate enough food for my own use and for sale to earn an extra source of income."

James
received a $23 fourteenth payment.
"I mostly depend on farming for a source of income which would not have been possible over the past few months due to the drought that was witnessed in the entire country were it not for the money I receive from. With the help of these transfers, I was able to keep my farm alive because I could hire a means of transport to fetch water from one of the dams in the village to irrigate my farm. The river near my farm had dried up making irrigation almost impossible, but I was able to get through the dry season and made a lot of money through the sales of my farm produce, all thanks to GD."

Jacob
received a $23 eleventh payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have been able to improve on my vegetable farming. I have always had a desire to have a vegetable plantation but due to lack of water pump to irrigate my farm, I have not been able to do it. When I started receiving the transfers from GD, I have been able to hire a water pump which I am using for irrigation. In the next month, I will be harvesting for the first time and my farm is doing so well. I know I will be able to sell my harvest to raise money to sustain my family needs."

Joan
received a $525 second payment.
"I bought a cow which I never had initially, and I also had enough finances that helped me pay the hospital bills for the treatment of cancer. Finally, I now own an irrigation machine that has been helping us with watering the plantations which actually makes our work much easier and also results in efficiency in terms of the amount of water that we use to water the entire acreage"

Mariam
received a $530 second payment.
"I used the money to set an irrigation project that I will use to irrigate my farm where I plan to start a farming project so that I can be able to get my daily bread from the business. Setting the irrigation plant alone cost around 50000 KES because it involves building a concrete poles, buying a big water tank plus getting a new generator and paying for the labor charges."
