"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have goats that I am keeping on my homestead. It has been my dream to own them but they were very expensive and I couldn't afford to purchase even one. I have been relying on temporary jobs to raise my four children. Being a single parent has been quite tough all along. I thought of having the goats would empower me to sort the bills ie school fees. That is when they reproduce and increase in number I will sell some and sort out all the payments. I am optimistic that in a few months to come I will no longer be undergoing the stress I have through, courtesy of GiveDirectly."

Secondly, my house is now big and spacious and I am forever grateful for the milestone that I have achieved, It is a dream come true. "Being a biological mother of four primary school children, I also take care of other three children who are orphans. Out of the three, one is in college, another one is in secondary school, and the other one in the primary. I was left with these children by my late sister. Upon withdrawing the money, I paid KES 5000.00 to each of the college and secondary school children, and KES 6000.00 to the five primary school children. I did this to ensure that they are not sent back home due to school fees. I also bought a bed and a mattress at KES 5500.00 each. Thereafter, I bought 3 goats for KES 11000.00. Having done that, I opted to use the remaining amount in buying food for the family."

"When I withdrew the money, the first thing I did was add a room to my one-bedroom house. This was to ensure that the house could accommodate my family of five because the children were grown up and I could no longer stay with them in my room for privacy purposes. Therefore, I used KES 18000.00 in making a room for them. I also bought two goats at KES 3500.00 each to mark the presence of GiveDirectly at my home. Thereafter, I paid school fees for my children; one is in secondary school and two are in primary school. I paid KES 20000.00 and KES 10000.00 respectively so that they be retained in school for proper learning."

"Upon withdrawing the money, I bought four goats for KES 14000.00 because they have a faster birthrate compared to cows. Since I had no bed nor a mattress and I was sleeping on the floor, I saw it better to spend KES 11200.00 to buy a nice modern bed and a mattress. I also used KES 1200.00 to buy and fix a door to my house which has been without a door for a while. I have desired to have my piece of land where in the future I will make a home, therefore I used KES 10000.00 to start as a deposit to a piece of land that I am aiming to purchase. Thereafter, I paid KES 4000.00 school fees for my children so that they be retained in school for better learning. The remaining amount, I used in buying food for my family."

"I spent KES 40000 of my first transfer on sorting household requirements and school fees for my children back at home. I had to make a direct mobile money transfer after receiving before withdrawing the remaining from the nearby shopping center. My family was happy and thankful for the support they received from GiveDirectly. I also bought five goats at KES 6000 that I am hoping to grow, breed, and later sell their offspring to support other projects with the proceeds. I spent part of the remaining on my foodstuff and also construction materials since I am currently planning to put up a better house."

"I have always wanted and intended to grow my farm by purchasing farm animals with the intention of gaining commercially but I was never able to because I never had the funds to support my ideas. Therefore when I withdrew the transaction, I decided to purchase three goats which cost me KES 14,000 and nine hens which cost KES 1,550. I plan to rear and breed the poultry as well so that I could finally sell then as well in case I need the finances. Apart from that, I also bought a bed and mattress which cost me KES 14,000 since I had been sleeping on a mat on the ground for close to over five years which was quite uncomfortable. I also used KES 5,000 to buy clothes for my child since I had not done so for quite a long time and most clothes she had were old and worn out. Afterwards I used the balance I was left with to ensure that I bought bags of rice and maize flour because nutrition had always been a challenge and the cost of living being high made things quite costly and day to day life quite hard."

"I am grateful to GiveDirectly because through the transfer, I am now owning five goats. To me, these are living assets which I can rely on for my future financial needs. My expectation is that these goats will reproduce and increase in number, and have many of them. I can readily sell the offspring to cater for my financial needs. Apart from this, I also spent Ksh. 20000 on buying two beds and two mattresses, for my children and for me. I was previously sleeping on used mats, sacks and on a traditional bed. My desire was to replace them with new ones only that I could not afford to buy at my own cost. Acquiring these new ones has ensured that we sleep well as a family. In addition to these, I also cleared my children's fees which had accumulated to Ksh. 10000. This allowed them to continue with their studies without any interruptions on school fees."
