"With the piped water conveyed to our doorsteps, it has been my prayer that I can get a sizeable water tank to help in the storage of water. Dry seasons have been giving us great challenges and only those who invested earlier in storage facilities had been lucky. I am also glad that I finally bought one for our household and this would not have been possible if I had never received the transfer."

received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different from how it would have been because I now have a huge water tank in my homestead. I purchased it purposely for storing water for commercial usage. I have been fetching water in the arms which were very far from the village and sometimes we could be attacked by the wild animals, therefore we were always insecure. Therefore I have to think of a permanent solution on the same and I ended up buying the tank. I am gladd I no longer transfer the long distabces to fetch water instead I am utilizing the one that I harvested during the rainy seasons. Sometimes I even water my vegetables in my small garden using the same water in my tank. Also, the beddings that I purchased have made my life much smoother than before. Initially, whenever it reached the time to sleep, I was not at peace because of the situations of the beddings. Thank you so much, GD for tranfrminhbmy life positively."

"Receiving this money means an assured educational support for my 6 children who are currently in primary school. My spouse and I have decided to spend $300 of our transfer to buy 10 goats and an heifer worth $200, that will be our store of wealth. In 4 years time, they will have multiplied and ready for sale hence a guaranteed educational support to our children. We also plan to buy a donkey worth $100 that will be useful in transporting water for domestic use. We usually walk 2kms away on several trips to fetch water hence owning a donkey will facilitate the same in only one trip."

received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different in that I was able to do a lot of development that I didn't know how and when I would have accomplished. I am skilled in dressmaking but I lacked the capital to purchase a sewing machine. After receiving my transfer, I bought one with my first transfer. Also, I partnered with my mother-in-law by contributing $250 each for the purchase of a second-hand motorbike. We are using it for taxi and is assisting us in fetching water since we are experiencing drought in our area."

"Upon receipt of this transfer, we lead a more satisfying lifestyle as a family. We have adequate freshwater for domestic uses. Also, we are optimistic of a prosperous future since our investment, the cow is doing well. Still, our self-esteem has improved due to the quality seats and beddings. We are more than ready and happy to welcome visitors to our home unlike before. Further, our health has probably improved since we are using more comfortable seats and beddings."

"I am priviledged to have an iron-roofed house but even so,my happiness is incomplete.Having such a house would have eased my constant problem of collecting water from a river which is about 1 kilometer away .However, the house does not have the ridges meant for collecting rain water as well as a water tank. This means that during rainy seasons,I watch as water pours down the roof and afterwards proceed to the river to fetch water.I am very happy to be enrolled into the GiveDirectly program as the transfers that I hope to get will enable me buy a water tank at a cost of Sh 20000.I also intend to furnish my house as there is barely anything that a visitor can sit on in it.With the remainder,I will buy a heifer which will be a constant reminder of the kind gesture I received from a "strange" organization. This is not something that happens everyday."

"I have a beautiful house where I carry out all household activities including cooking. Since firewood is our main source of fuel, smoke soot from the kitchen has coloured the walls of the house. This has destroyed the initial cream paintings that had brought glamour to my house. Receiving this money means that I will be able to use 80,000 shillings to build a separate brick kitchen. This will ensure that the problem of soot is a thing of the past. I intend to use the remaining 15,000 shillings to buy a water tank to store rain water for my domestic use during dry periods."

"We have been married for three years now but we have never received nor been given money like this. This money has given us hope that we shall finally have a good looking house and a capital for business. As you know a good house needs iron sheets , good windows and a comfortable sleeping place. As a woman,I also need proper household utensils such as water buckets to make sure I do not travel frequently to the nearest well. This also applies to cooking utensils which are needed to be enough for any proper household."

Janeth
received a $493 second payment.
"I spend part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a water tank for storing water for domestic use. I used to walk for a long distance to collect clean water. This was so tiresome and time consuming. I also bought pipes and other materials for drainage from the hardware. This was mainly for connecting the tap water. The rest of the money I pay workers who were doing the plumping and blaster. I also pay school fees for my children in various schools and bought food for the family."
