"My family wants to own a dairy cow to produce milk and also act as a future investment. We are fortunate to get free milk from our parent but we feel like we put so much strain on her, she could be selling what she gives us and get an income. That is why when we receive this transfer we will purchase a cow worth $400 that will aid in providing milk for us and once it gives birth we can sell it in future and educate our children. The remaining amount will be used as follows, $250 in building a kitchen, $3.5 in buying a small water tank and the rest in paying school fees and finish my Diploma in Early Childhood Education."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means fulfillment of my desire to own indigenous dairy cows. For long, I have had the desire of owning indigenous dairy for milk production both for domestic consumption and for sale. I have identified that gap in the village and I would like to invest in the milk business. I will use the income from the sale of milk to cater for my children school fees and at the same time cater for my family's basic necessities such as water and food. This will make me a happy woman."

"The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is because during this time am free to do all my household chores like fetching water, washing clothes, looking for firewood, and all household chores. Unlike in the morning and evening hours when it is cold and I can't be active as being in the afternoon."

"Receiving this money means starting a business (supplying and selling water) to residents. This has been my ambition for 5 years now but due to financial difficulties, this has not come to pass. I plan to spend 45,000 shillings to purchase 2 donkeys and a cart that can carry roughly 20 jerricans in 1 trip. The donkeys will help me pull it so that I distribute water in people's compounds because our area does not have sources of water e.g dams. People walk almost 10 kilometers or hire expensive motorbike. A jerrican goes for at least 40 shillings which will be a good source of income to my family of 5 members. Also, the remaining amount will go to building a house."

"I live in a single room old grass-thatched house that is becoming uncomfortable to live in since it needs the roof to be replaced yearly which is becoming expensive for me and tiring each time I have to do it. To be receiving this money means I will be able to construct two houses a living house and a kitchen. I am planning to spend KES50000 to build these houses thus I will leave a new life in a more comfortable house and I will be able to harvest clean rainwater a dream I have had for a long. I wish to use KES20000 to buy a heifer to add to my heard. I will be able to have more milk for my household consumption and sales for extra income besides the offspring that I will rely on any financial crisis arising in my family. I planning to spent KES35000 on my family basic needs mainly my eye medication, food and clothing."

"Imagine waking up each day to fetch water from the stream , tiring , isn't? The alternative to this is the dam but it's unfortunate that the water is dirty as it's used for the cattle as well. Receiving this money means that I will purchase a kentank 3000lts (200usd) to harvest rain water during the rainy season and use it for longer dry periods. I will use (350usd ) to start a poultry farm as my maize business is seasonal. The rest of the transfers will be used on clothing for my children."

"I have two little children a boy and a girl. This means that I have to buy milk at 40ksh daily for them. This translates to 1,200 ksh a month which is expensive for me. With the money I will receive, will buy a cow with 30,000 ksh to help me provide milk for my family and also reduce monthly spending on milk. I will buy a tank with 17,000 ksh because our water source is far and it will help us store water. I will use 14,000 ksh to buy a sewing machine for my wife and a chicken shed with 10,000 sh in order to help me boost our income."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to buy water tank for storing water and build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"My morning and evening hours are usually very busy. I spend this time doing house chores like fetching water and doing laundry. In the afternoon when the sun is up high and hot, I relax under the shade as I chat with my in laws. This is the happiest part of my day since it is my free time."
