"The biggest difference in daily life is the I am empowered and leading a comfortable life after fulfilling the desires of my life. Through the transfer, I was able to connect tap water to my house. I no longer have to walk a long distance to find water for my family consumption which is tiresome. In addition, I will be able to earn a living from the selling of water to my neighbors at cost of KES 10 per 20litres. With this income, I will be able to pay water bills and set aside some amount for my daily basic needs like food."

"I remember it was around 9 O'clock, I was on my way traveling back home from fetching water from the water pan. I heard a message notification on my phone, I was curious to know the content of the message since it was unusual to get a message at such a time. I was surprised to realize that it was the transfer, after reaching home I informed the rest of the family members and everyone was extremely happy to hear the good news."

"I always worry during the rainy season. Whenever I go somewhere, and the rain starts to fall, I can be worrying because I know that all of my things will get wet behind my back. For each time the rain falls, my house can be filled with so much water. It makes me to feel very bad. Even when we are cooking our food and the rain starts to fall, it cuts off the fire. I'm not even praying for the rain to fall because you will not be able to sit down here to end the interview with me.
When I get this money, the first thing that will do is to change the roof of my house with zinc because that will be the only way I will have a peace of mind. The remaining amount will be used to start a business to take care of my family and send my children to school."

"Imagine owning 10 acres of land without doing anything productive with it due to poor weather conditions. Living in a semi-arid area has been a challenge as crops do not do well and keeping livestock too is tasking. When the rains fail there is no water and pasture in this area, cows grow thin thus producing less milk. We have to buy a bale of hay at KES 400 per day which is very expensive as we do not have a stable source of income"

"I am no longer able to do casual jobs to earn a living due to my old age. When I receive this money I will buy a dairy cow at KES 30000 to enable me to earn income through the sale of milk. I will also purchase a plastic water tank at KES 20000 to enable me to harvest rainwater thus saving my family with perennial water shortage. I am having school fee arrears KES 10000, therefore I will also use the cash to clear arrears to enable my child to study peacefully without being sent to collect school fees balance. The remaining KES 30000 will go to renovating my house and build a new kitchen."

"I am a housewife and my usual day entails doing my household chores in the morning such as laundry work, washing dishes, and taking care of my small child who is yet to go to school. I spent the rest of the afternoon herding our four cows and taking them to the river for water. I feel more relaxed in the evening while resting from the tiresome day which makes it the happiest part of my day."

"I am a single mother of one. I depend on sand collection along the river for sell. This is depend on the dept of the water because sometimes when it rain a lot it can be dangerous. Also some part of the river is deep and one can fall into it if not careful. So when i get this money I will buy 5 goats so that I can sell them in future when there will be other needs. A goat cost KES 4500 each. We also have food shortages. My land is rocky and dry due to insufficient rainfall, so I will use some of the transfer to purchase food."

"I can still vividly remember5 it was around 8 in the morning when I was at my farm watering my vegetable(kales) when my mobile phone started ringing continuously. Since I couldn't read on my own I decided to go back home to seek assistance. My son took the phone and after checking, he realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. After receiving the good news we were all over excited becsue we knew the money will finally finish our long-time problems which we couldn't solve using our own cash."

"Recieving this money means I will build a spacious house for me and buy a big storage of tank that will harvest plenty of water during rainy season this reducing my hustle of looking for water in a far place.
I have been unable to achieve my dreams since I am a casual labour in a nearby town where I usually over services in a petrol selling point at the end of the day I get KES 200 and I only buy food for my children this consuming every coin I earn.
I plan to use KES 70,000 to construct my house and spend the remaining for buying a storage tank."
