"I spent my third transfer on buying a second hand motor cycle for 60,000 KES, having topped up with 13, 000 KES saved from our second transfer. Before we got GD transfer my husband used a hired motor cycle for transportation business, where he paid 1,500 to motor cycle owner per week, but he would give me 50 KES-200 KES, per week for house upkeep. In fact I used to survive by washing clothes for people. I thank God I invested 14,000 KES from my second transfer on second hand clothes business and I sell the clothes in different markets around, depending on the market days concept. As we talk now I have a stock of about 15,000 KES, and savings of 8,000 KES. In addition, my husband gives me more money for house upkeep since we acquired our own motor cycle. Again, he himself has already bought six bags of cement using profits from the business in readiness for plastering our house in the near future. He also has savings as much as he does not reveal to me the details. These days our living standard has improved and eating chicken in our house is not a problem." "My husband had an idea of buying a metal container to put up a small retain shop business as a source of my family's income.Upon receiving my third transfer part of it I spent on buying the metal container which I added some money that I had loaned .I bought a cupboard 26,000 KES and household utensil . "I spent my third transfer on paying loan that I had taken to buy motorcycle to start a transit business by transporting passengers and goods to and from the nearest markets in my village. Its been five months running this business and from the profits I have saved and built a decent house .I can confidently say that I am stress free since I am able to support my family's needs comfortably like proving food and other family emergencies of which before the transfers were sent by GiveDirectly it was a challenge since I could borrow money from my neighbors more frequently."

"I used my last transfer to build a house, for this I bought i ron sheets, two rolls of manila, round pole, nails and other building materials, I was living in my father in laws compound and in our culture the second born cannot build a home when the first born has not moved to their homestead, I am older in our family and it felt like I was delaying them in building so that’s why I built my house in my homestead." "I spent my third transfer on a motor cycle for 94,000 KES, having saved the 50,000 KES from my second transfer. I was a Watchman before and life was difficult for us as a family due to low pay. Consequently, I hired a motor cycle from a man in the vicinity that I used for transportation business, for which I would pay him 300 KES shillings daily, after which I had to fuel and feed my family. I remember many a times on bad days when business was poor yet I paid him his 300 KES anyway and went home empty handed, just so that I could use the motor cycle again the following day to earn a living. I always prayed to one day own my motor cycle to improve my earnings, and for this reason I thank you GD very much for the grants and for helping me realize my dream. This is making a big difference in my life already, and for the 3 months I have been in business using my own motor cycle, I have already bought housing materials valued 7,000 KES, and saved 9,000 KES . My goal is to build a three-roomed house from the business proceeds, and move my family from the leaking grass-thatched 10 by 10 room that we currently live in by January 2018. My family has needed a better house for long but due to low earnings, high cost of living and inevitable nil savings, I could never dare plan for decent shelter before GD came along." "I spent my third transfer on topping up to buy a new motor cycle after selling my old one which I had bought second hand over 3 years ago.I had a rough time with my old motor cycle since I had to have it repaired frequently for it to keep functioning, which consumed my earnings and also time resource. However, since I got grant support from GD and bought a new one, I have gained efficiency , resulting to improved earnings and savings.
