Joseph
received a second payment.
"I spent the second transfer on buying a cow that was sold to me at a cost of 15000 KES. I also bought some chicken that were sold to me at a price of two thousand shillings. I bought the livestock because I want to rear them because I know that I will derive financial benefit from them in the unforeseeable future when things get thick in terms of finances. The rest of the money helped me in doing the final finishing touches on my house which took a lot of money and effort."

Teresa
received a twelfth payment.
"I have a long term of keeping chicken in a large quantity but the only thing that I am missing at the moment is the structure where I will be keeping them. So for me right now i am planning of savings every single month so that I can be able to get the structure and start off the project. I know that once the project gets rolling their numbers will increase significantly and most probably I will be in a position to sel, out some of them in the future and make some little cash."

Zeddy
enrolled.
"On a normal day, I wake up early in the morning and as usual do my routine household chores. Afterwards, I feed my chicken and go to my farm to cultivate some vegetables i.e kales. In the afternoon, I come back and cook for my children who are coming for lunch from school. Later in the evening, I go back to the farm, water the vegetables and carry some for supper which we enjoy with my family-This is the happiest time of my day."

John
received a $50 fourth payment.
"I spent my most recent transfer to buy some chicken and chicken feeds. It has always been my prayer to start a poultry keeping project back at home. My grandmother will be running it for me. I settled on this because its starting cost is not high and it does not require a lot of attention. This will act as my alternative source of income which I will be using to cater for my needs."

Rosalia
received a $526 second payment.
"They have changed our lives in our village. People had thatched houses but due to the transfers they received from GiveDirectly, they have built iron-roofed houses. They have also changed my life as I managed to buy building materials like iron sheets, wire mesh, nails and plywood to use in building a chicken pen to protect my poultry against stray animals. I am now confident that my poultry will thrive and I will sell them to get money for family upkeep. We can also eat nutritious food i.e chicken."

Wilson
received a $49 fourth payment.
"I used my most recent transfer to buy more chicken. When I received my first transfer, I ventured in to poultry farming but some of the chicken died due to disease outbreak hence led to low egg production. I thus used my recent transfer to buy more chicken and this has led to more income from the sale of eggs. I also used the remaining amount to buy poultry feeds and pay rent."
