"On receiving the second transfer, I bought a dairy cow worth KES 37,000. This was going to be an addition to my livestock. I appreciate that we currently get two liters of milk after one of the dairy cows I normally depend on stopped producing milk. With the remaining part of my transfer of KES 16,000,I used to add more sheep to my business for selling."

"In my opinion, Givedirectly did well by enrolling all the households in my village. Most households have improved their standards of living by constructing iron-roofed houses, owning dairy cows and water tanks. I have no complaints at all."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well to change the living standards of people in my locality. For example, through the transfers, I now have a dairy cow and comfortable sofa seats which I couldn't otherwise afford."

"The moment I received my transfer, I prioritised building a decent house for my family where I used KES 30,000. This is because I was living in a grass-thatched house, I could not afford to build a house due to financial constraints since all my children were still schooling. Secondly, I purchased a daily cow worth KES 22,000 so has to cut down on the cost of buying milk. Lastly, I used the remaining amount in buying household items. I am happy and grateful that finally my dream has been realised with the support that I was given."

"I spent KES 46000 of my first transfer in a five-month in-calf dairy cow that I am looking forward to prolific productivity in the next few months. I had been spending a lot on buying milk for my family of seven which was not always available since most of the villages could not accept to give us credit whatsoever. I am happy that I now have my own that will soon relieve me from the burden of buying and can as well earn me some income from the sale of extra liters produced. I injected KES 6000 out of the remaining amount into my maize selling business which is now doing well after getting a reliable supplier who delivers the required amount to my doorstep. In addition, I spent the remaining KES 3000 buying new clothes for my children,"

"With the experience I have in sewing, I had been working from home, making and selling great work to the school children as a source of income. Even though that business has been slow due to the location I am operating from, I still appreciate it since I have never felt the pinch of hunger. On receiving the second transfer, I spent KES 24000 on obtaining a heifer to add to the lactating dairy cow with a calf that I already have. Milk-selling from my livestock has been the main source of income, and I saw an opportunity to invest in a young breed that will add up the production in the future. I also completed the construction of a house I had initiated with the first transfer. I needed some furniture and fitted of the ceiling board that cost a total of KES 19000. In addition, I am glad that I was also able to buy enough foodstuff to still carry us for some months to come, and new pairs of clothes for my five children with the remaining amount. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for this generous support that has changed the face of my family and given me another chance to redirect my focus in life."

"We spent most of the recent transfer, that is, KES 35000 on building another house. We built one that is roofed with iron sheets. We decided to build another one because we only had one grass-thatched house. We wanted there to be the main house and a kitchen so that when guests visit our household, we will have somewhere to welcome them. Other than that, we also bought a calf at KES 15000. We didn't have a cow of our own and it has always been our wish to have one. We hence do not usually have a source of milk. We are usually supplied with some from home. Although we have always wanted to achieve the above before, we were not in a position to due to a lack of money. We do not have stable sources of income. We depend on casual jobs that usually earn us money to buy daily food, that is, most especially maize. With the remaining transfer money, we took KES 3000 which we used in buying a bag of maize for our consumption. Maize has for quite some time not been doing well in our area since it usually gets affected by some disease when planted. We also bought a bed and a table. We are thus grateful to GiveDirectly for supporting us."

"My new goal if I was to get money, is to buy more land. I would like to do so because I live on a small piece of land, that is, three points of an acre, and hence it is not enough to practice agricultural activities such as rearing a cow. Getting more land will enable me to rear my cows comfortably."

"We spent KES 30000 of the recent transfer on building another sleeping house for the boys. We decided to do so because the one that they use to sleep in was small and hence the space was not enough for them. We have always wanted to build them one but we didn't have the money that is required to do so. We also spent another KES 15000 on buying a calf. We had bought a cow with the first transfer and hence we decided to add a calf so that it can help us in the future when it calves. We will be able to get milk that we can sell some or we can sell the offspring whenever we are faced with an emergency such as a lack of money for the children's school fees. We are glad because the boys now have a bigger house that is enough for them and we also got a calf which is an investment in the future. With the remaining transfer money, we used it in building a poultry unit. We are thus grateful to GiveDirectly for the support."
