"With the expansion of my main house and constructing a separate house for my male grandchildren to sleep, I am so relieved that they do not have to squeeze in a small space. I also bought layer chickens with part of my first transfers which have now started laying eggs that I can sell for an extra income or even use for family consumption. This has generally improved our daily feeding habits as we can get money to buy our daily needs."

"Receiving this money means initiating a poultry project that will enable me to earn some income upon selling eggs and chicken after they multiply. I will have to buy some wiremesh and barbed wire for fencing my compound in order to restrict the chicken from going to my neighbour's farms to destroy crops then buy materials for constructing the chicken coop before i buy mature chicks and their feeds to start up the project with. The remaining part of my transfer will enable me to pay next term's school fees with ease."

"When I receive this money, I will buy livestock. In these are goats, chicken and cows for both raising and as oxen. I will also buy an ox-plough that will help in ploughing the fields. We are currently using hand hoes for this which affects our out puts but with an ox-plough, our outputs will go high of which we shall have enough food for both home consumption and selling. If thers is any balance, I will buy some beddings for adults and children because the ones we have apparently are not good."

"I bought a few chickens with part of the first transfer and my hope is that they will have multiplied in the next six months so that I can be able to sell off some of them or the eggs they produce for my daily sustenance in school. Being a full-time student, it is very hard for me to engage in any income generating activity and I mostly have to rely on my parent for my financial needs. Having this project gives me hope of having a backup plan especially when they are unable to provide."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer in that I have been able to build a chicken coop. Due to this, destruction of our crops in the garden has reduced and at the moment, my wife can now sell vegetables to my neighbors hence earning an income through it unlike before when our chicken would destroy them."

"Farming effectively has made me one of the few empowered youths in the village. I have about 15 chickens that are already at the stage of laying eggs. I expect to start earning a daily income from selling the eggs. I also have started learning to trade in livestock especially cows from my father's expertise. I use part of the money to contribute to buying an animal to be sold at a profit and hence I get a share of the income. My life is currently different because I can afford my basic needs and those of my family."

"I expect to have established a good poultry system on my farm. I am planning to add more equipment and all other materials that are essential but lacking on my farm. I also plan to buy chicken every month using the transfers. I feel like I would reap more if I invest in this sector because few people are doing it. The demand for chicken in this region is also very high. This will aid me in school fee payment as I am going to have several sources of income. I believe my business will be fully established by next year."

"In the next six months, I expect to have a well-established poultry system. I have already started saving towards it. I will have to build a poultry structure and bought chicken. I also have to start looking for potential markets where I would sell my chicken. I believe I will be a successful business. If all goes well, I will be getting a daily income from the sale of eggs and sometimes chickens."

"I had been buying milk on a daily basis which is usually costly. I used to spend a lot of money buying a few litres that could not last long. When I received the money from GD, I decided to buy a dairy cow. I spent KES 30000 to buy a lactating cow. Apart from that I also bought some iron sheets and nails which cost me KES 15000 with an intention to complete the house which I had built halfway due to lack of enough finances. In addition to that, I also bought ten chicken. I want to start practising layers of chicken farming because no one is doing that in this village at the moment. This will help me meet and sustain my family's needs easily. I spent the remaining amount to buy utensils and school uniform for my children."

"I used the money to meet a number of financial needs which included starting off a small scale business of selling second-hand clothes, selling sweets and cigarettes at my small shop. I also had some few cash still left which went into opening a chicken parlor which has so far been a pillar to my survival and daily life here in Mathare. Apart from that, I spent a bit of the money to pay my debts to the creditors amounting to around 15000 KES. Since I live in a rental house, I also had to make sure that the rent for that month is fully settled within the required time. My kids also had to go to school looking decent so I had to make sure that I bought them a new school uniform and also paid their school fees in full amount."
