"I am old thus my life currently is engaged on my farm. I no longer have children in school thus our major worry is our daily bread. In the last six months, my joy has been from my lactating cow. I have been able to earn an income through milk sales and I have had enough for consumption. I have been able to meet my daily needs through milk from my cow."

"Our new goal is to look for more money for paying school fees for one of our children who is going to join a secondary school in the next academic year. A lot of money will be required for paying school fees and for buying the many school items that are required. We do not have jobs. We usually depend on farming to earn a living where we usually grow maize and rear cows. The maize does not usually do well most of the time due to some disease that has been affecting it for a while now. We usually harvest what is only enough for our consumption most of the time. As a result, it is the cows that we depend on most. We usually sell milk and the money that we make from the sales is what we usually use in paying school fees for our children. We still have two who are in college, and the one who is to join secondary school."

"I spent KES 10000 of my recent transfer on paying off a debt that I was still owing the person who had sold a cow to us. I had paid him KES 30000 with the first transfer but I didn't manage to complete making the payment. We decided to buy the cow we didn't have our own. We had a borrowed one and it had dried. We were thus buying milk where we use to buy a liter everyday at KES 40. We thus decided to buy our own so that we when the owner decides to take his cow, we will be having a source of milk. It has always been our wish to buy one but we didn't have the money. I usually do casual jobs to earn money for buying household items such as sugar and milk. We do not usually buy maize because we usually grow it at our farm which is the nearby county for consumption. I also spent another KES 20000 on paying off another debt that we were owing someone. We had borrowed the amount from him because one of our children needed to undergo an operation and we didn't have the money. I am glad that I was able to pay him back and hence I no longer have any debts. With the remaining amount, I used it in buying clothes for my husband and my grandchildren who are orphans. I also used some on farming and I still have a little with me which is helping me in paying for the medical expenses of my husband who is sickly. I am thus grateful to GiveDirectly for their big help."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have two dairy cows that I am keeping on my homestead. I settled for the cows because, according to me, they have numerous benefits as compared to the rest. One is that I will be getting plenty of liters of milk. I am hopeful that soon I will start a business selling milk in the dairy shops and earn a living. Milk is scarce in my region and this guarantees me of getting enough returns. From the earnings, I will be able to pay fees for my children once they transition to secondary schools and colleges. Since I am now jobless and my spouse is very old and ailing, we have been depending on our relatives for our daily bread. Additionally, the remaining liters will be for the family's consumption and I trust my children will be healthier. I am pleased to have among the beneficiaries because my life will never be the same again."

"Since the last mile, rural electricity is already in my village. I intend to install electricity in my house to help with lighting. Secondly, I am planning to buy an additional dairy cow to generate more income for my family. This is because dairy farming is a major source of livelihood in our village."

"Since I did not have any better house to live in, I had a plan to build a new and a better one. The spacious two bedroomed house would serve me better in terms of accommodating all my household members, three children, my husband and I. Thereafter, I developed an additional goal of buying a lactating cow. In late 2021, I sold the only cow I had in my life in order to meet the medication cost for my lXittle baby who had been unwell from birth. Although I do not regret selling the only cow my family had then, it has been pretty hard for my family to acquire milk for my young baby because both my husband and I do not have a reliable source of income."

"My life has changed for the better since I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. Because of this, my daily routine has changed since I always wake up knowing that apart from the household chores, I have some assets to feed. In addition, I foresee my life continuing to change for the better especially when it reproduces. I will be using money from the sale of surplus to meet our basic needs and on paying school fees for my children."

"My son has been sleeping with his cousin who recently got married. Due to this, he had to always walk from one house to another looking for a place to sleep. This made me so uncomfortable and I felt that I had failed as a parent since I had no money to use in building him a house of his own. In addition, I had sold all the livestock I ever owned and used the money on school fees for my children and this had made us start buying milk daily. When I received my second transfer, I spent KES 30000 on a dairy cow, spent KES 20000 to build a house for my son, and used the remaining amount on food. I am a broker and I am happy that GiveDirectly has enabled me to achieve my goals and I am grateful for that. I believe that with what I have achieved so far, I will be able to continue supporting my three children who are still in school."
