"Receiving this money means that we'll have to improve our house by having it plastered with cement, thus, both interior and external walls so that it is durable. Some iron sheets are rusty so we'll need to replace them as well. For this to happen it would cost us $400. Thereafter, we intend to buy 15 bags of maize for food to sustain the 6 of us until next harvesting season. We would buy these items from Balaka township. Additionally, we plan on buying 6 goats, from our fellow community members right here, totalling the sum of $250. These goats are to breed and then will sell them at a profit later to carter for our daily sustainance after the GD program phases out. I and my family plan to initiate these projects as soon as we receive the money in our AM account."

"When I receive this money I will renovate my house and cement it to keep is strong from rains and winds. I will also buy a mattress and beddings for my children. My son who is in form also needs a bicycle to use as transport to go to school. He cycles 30minutes to get to school so you can imagine that distance on foot. I want to encourage him not to drop out so an ease in transportation will be ideal. I would also like to add more goats because they help on a rainy day."

"My goal has been to build a new house. However, I live in a difficult situation. I live in a small house together with my six children. Unfortunately, I do not have a bed. I am optimistic that once I build a house, my children will get a better place to spend in, and this will restore my dignity among my community members. As a single mother, I have lived with pain to see my children living in horrible conditions. Apart from the house, I have a lot of needs to respond to. These include raising school fees for the children and feeding them. Once I build a house, I shall start raising livestock such as goats and chickens because they are precious assets in our community."

"I am a casual worker; commonly known as "Jua-kali" here while sometimes taking care of animals for people. I hope that this year, God willing, I will become a businessman selling animals in the main market. I want to sacrifice every month so I can save for this business. I want to buy animals that I will use in this trade. I want to make sure by the time I am ending my time with GD I have something which I can rely on. I want to first start by buying chicken, and once I get to a certain level, I will incorporate the purchase of goats. I am hopeful that if I am in good health and have a life, I can achieve the goal of venturing into buying goats by August this year."

"As a household we plan on building a new house first. We intend on building a 2 roomed house with iron sheets for the roof. We have been wanting to do this forever but have failed to attain that due to lack of finances. So we believe this opportunity would help us to finally realize that dream of living in a better house. With the current price of items we are unable to put a price tag on the house project. However, if some money will be left after finishing the house project, we plan on buying 2 goats and 4 ducks to rear here at home for our sustainance after the program phases out. We wouldn't waste time to start implementing these household plans, having received the money, for fear of the rise in cost of commodities."

"When I receive this money, i will lessen my problems. Firstly I will buy 10 bags of maize. Then i will invest the money in livestock to add to the goats I have. My iron sheets are old and leaking so I will replace them when the rains come to an end."
