"For a long time I have had a hard time when hosting guests in my home due to lack of seats. My priority upon receiving my first transfer is to buy 4 sets of seats worth Kshs 10,000 (100usd) and 2 tables for Kshs 2000 (20usd). Actualizing this is going to boost my esteem and make me proud of my home.
I spend about 4 days in a week working as a casual in people's farms planting and weeding maize while sometimes fencing. I do this for lack of alternative source of income. But this is going to change from next month upon receiving my first cash transfer. I intend to invest in a poultry project for self employment. I expect my poultry house to cost Kshs 6,000 (60usd) and spend another Kshs 10,000 (100usd) to buy 20 chicken layers. Upon completion,my project is literally going to feed my family of 5 without having to rely on tedious manual jobs in the village."

"It has always been my prayer to own a dairy cow so that it would relieve me of the cost of buying milk daily. Due to this, I decided to buy a dairy cow using part of my recent transfer. When it reproduces, my family will always get milk for their consumption and also sell some to earn an income. Also, I bought some chicken as a way of starting a poultry keeping project. I will be selling some of the eggs and use the money to buy some basic needs for my family. I used the remaining amount to buy some clothes, utensils, two sacks of maize flour and other foodstuffs for my family."

"When I received my first transfer, I bought a dairy cow. I settled on this since I will be earning an extra income through milk sales which I will in turn use to meet our daily needs and milk for my household consumption. Also, I bought some chicken as a way of starting a poultry project. I preferred this poultry keeping project since it will help me to improve my daily income through egg sales. I used some amount to buy two sets of chairs, a cupboard to use in keeping my utensils. I am happy that I have my utensils save and house in order unlike before. I took another portion to buy clothes, and foodstuffs for my family."

Titus
received a $512 second payment.
"I spent my second transfers on buying a cow as a form of investment for myself. I have always wanted to own a cow at my tender age but due to low income from casual work, I was not able to. GD enabled me to achieve my goal through the transfers. I also bought chics which I will use in starting a poultry project. I have seen some of my colleagues in the village change their lives financially through this poultry business and I have decided to give it a try. I know I will succeed since there is demand for chicken from the nearby hotels. I used the rest of the transfer to buy building materials (iron sheets and Timber) which I used in building chicken shed for the poultry. I am glad they are doing well and the business is stable."

received a $22 nineteenth payment.
"My new goal is to start a poultry keeping business. I am planning to buy a few chickens to start with. I currently don't have a kitchen coop so they will be sleeping in my kitchen. I believe that with time, I will have saved enough money and built a more established kitchen house. I don't have to start big because even a journey of a thousand mile starts with one step. This side hustle will assist me in school fee payment and meeting my other goals."

Richard
received a $529 initial payment.
"I run a small business at the nearby center to enable me to sustain my family. The small amount I earn from this alone has never been enough to meet the basic needs of the family thus I engage in mixed farming to increase my sources of income. I had started a poultry farming project but because I did not have enough money, I never made it to a good standard to earn an income. Due to the limited resource, I wasn't able to put up a good chicken coop. It was hard for me controlling my chicken hence had brought a lot of conflicts in my neighborhood since my chicken could destroy their crops. I had been so stressed with this habit and felt ashamed of myself. I have built a good poultry house and this has given me the biggest change in my daily life. I am so happy I have gained the lost peace and harmony in my neighborhood. The conflicts with them ended and we are now in good terms. We do many daily activities together and even our children relate well unlike before. I currently have peace of mind to concentrate on my daily work. Thanks to GiveDirectly it has enabled me to be happy and live well with my neighbors unlike before."

Winny
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Currently I have many chickens in our household which I am rearing in a free range approach. I have been thinking of buying a barbed wire which will enable me to construct them a descent coop confining them inside to avoid destruction of the farm produce. My expectation is that in the next six months, I will have completed the construction of the chicken coop and adding more birds will no longer be a problem"

"My boys have grown big and I need to build them their own house.According to our culture, they need to sleep separately from the main house. The money from Give Directly will help me build the house at a cost of Ksh 30,000(300 USD).I also have plan of buying a dairy cow to add to the one that I have.Dairy farming is advantageous to me because I spend most of the time around the compound. For now I cannot manage other activities like business because I have small children. It is therefore a good source of income that I can manage.Through the sale of milk I am able to save money and pay school fees for my children. The cow will cost me approximately Ksh 30,000(30 USD).I also want to expand my poultry farm with part of the money.I will buy more chicken and improve the structures."

"The happiest part of the day is evening hours. Iam up and down moving from markets selling my chicken for a living. The only available time for relaxing and chatting with my family members is evening hours. We are able to exhange development ideas at home and this is pushing my family members with unity."
