"In the last four months, I have witnessed a lot of differences in my daily life, most of them are so impressive that I always wish that the officers who enrolled us into the program could come and see. Many structures have been put up in our household, most of which were not existing before the transfers but now they are looking good. Within a period of four months, the biggest difference in my daily life is the initiation to the completion of a poultry project. Although after bringing in the poultry they all died, I still never gave up but improved the structures which I had earlier on pit up for them. I currently have a complete modern chicken coop and have managed to fence all around my vegetable garden to protect my vegetables from the destructive chickens. This to me is a step ahead since reestablishing the poultry project again will not be hard since I have done a lot in the infrastructure."

"Having been receiving the transfers from GiveDirectly for almost two years now, I have been so grateful for the changes I have witnessed in my daily life. I have witnessed a project after the project getting completed with successful outcomes. It has been my wish that I start one project which will keep GiveDirectly in our memories even after the completion of our term. In the last four months, I have been able to make a decision to start poultry farming which I have already started. construction of a chicken coop has been the toughest phase of the projects and I am thankful that it is now completed. Completing it has made the project a reality and the next step of bringing in the chicks will soon be picking."

Mercy
enrolled.
"I currently live in a small hut with my children.Being a single parent, all household needs depend on me and most times there is never enough money to buy food as well as construct a new house. With my four children growing, the room is becoming too small to accomodate the five of us and I have always wished to build an iron-roofed house.I see this as the perfect opportunity because I do not think I will ever receive such a large amount of money.I also intend to build a poultry house and buy some chicken for rearing. This will in turn help me in meeting the day to day needs of the household by providing an income source through egg sale."

Evaline
received a $532 initial payment.
"When I received my first transfer, I spent part of it to clear school fees arrears for my children to had been sent back home. I am now glad since they were able to sit for their end year examinations and they will be going to their next grade next year. Also, I bought a heifer as a way of investing this money. When it reproduces, I will get enough milk for our consumption and to sell some to earn an income. I also built a chicken coop and bought three chicken using part of this money. I used the remaining amount to buy some basic needs for my family. I bought some decent clothes, maize flour, and other foodstuffs."

Catherine
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"I primarily depend on farming to earn a living to support my family. Since farming is affected by weather and natural conditions crop farming is not reliable to depend on alone thus I practice mixed farming to reduce the risk. I had earlier started poultry keeping to enhance my income. I preferred this since it was affordable for me to start and manage. Even though I had a plan to expand it, my overwhelming daily household needs made it impossible to realize this. I found myself neglecting my project and it slowly falling. In the last four months, I have been injecting part of my transfers to my poultry farming. This has brought the biggest change in my life since it has expanded it. My chickens have tripled in number thus I collect more eggs than before. I earn an extra income that has enabled me to meet my daily household needs with ease."

"After I completed constructing a new kitchen I am thinking of starting a poultry farming. I believe that when I got some chicken I would collect some eggs which when I get to sell I would earn money which would enable me to cater to my family needs. This would relieve me from the daily hustle of seeking casual jobs to meet my daily bills."

Bett
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"Having started investments on the savings which we had accumulated, we never stopped saving. Every month we save at least a total of 2000 KES from the transfers we have been receiving from GiveDirectly.
In the next four months, we also have a plan to invest in poultry farming which we are currently assembling construction materials to put up a chicken coop. This is another venture which is an income-generating project and we hope to see it pick after starting so it may help in sorting all the household bills we have been struggling with."

"The biggest difference in my life in the last four months of receiving transfers from Give Directly is that I am now happy with life since I have a project that has been slowly improving courtesy of GiveDirectly. I now own twelve chickens with some already in the egg-laying stage. Being a farmer such an additional project in my farm is a step ahead. I am happy that I currently, I get eggs from my poultry for both household consumption and sales. I currently find it easier providing for my daily household expenditures since I supplement my income with egg sales income. As our monthly transfer come to an end, I am certain that I will continuously get a monthly income from my poultry farming."

"My expectation in the next six months is to ensure that I have established a poultry keeping project. Thorough the monthly transfers that I get from GiveDirectly, I am very sure that I will build the poultry house and even buy chicken even if it means doing so in small numbers first and then add more as time goes by."
