Dama
received a $27 second payment.
"I spent KSH 1000 to pay my hospital bill. Few days before receiving the transfer, I got ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. I have stomach ulcers and the situation does worse when I do not have enough money to buy medicine. In the hospital, I checked up and given some medical attention to ease the pain I was feeling. When I was released from the hospital, I went back home and spent the remaining KSH 2000 to buy a goat. The money was not enough to purchase it all and I owe the owner KSH 1000, which I plan on the making the payment once I receive my next transfer. The motivation behind buying the goat is to own my livestock. Once the livestock has increased in numbers, I will sell some and earn money that I can use to attend to my needs."

"Yes, I have new goals for this third transfer. I have planned to collect the last transfer to add up to the third one and travel with my sick son to Ghana for surgery. My son Varney Johnson is nine years, he drunk caustic soda since 2016 and he has been feeding through tube throughout his illness. I have been using the previous transfers for food and medicine for him."

Morris
received a $263 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started recieving payments from GiveDirectly is that I can handle my own money now because I have my petty business that community dwellers buy from me. I do not go to people to borrow money like before. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for enrolling my household into the program. Indeed GiveDirectly is that organization for the poorest. As usually said in our local parlance- POVERTY MEDICINE."

For the remaining KES 600.00, I used it for transport to and from the hospital."

"I have been wondering about where to get funds for topping up school fees for my daughter who is joining university next month. She is going to pursue a Bachelor of Science course in medicine at Kenyatta University. The savings that we had made toward raising the required fees is insufficient. So, I am delighted to receive this grant because it will enable me to raise about KES 70000 that is needed. Thank you GiveDirectly for this support."

"I was in my house sleeping because I was not feeling well. My health condition was worsening each day. My phone, which was beside me, rang out loudly. I quickly asked her to buy medicine for me so that I could feel better."

"I am epileptic highly depending on medicine that I get from a local government facility. I spend about KES 2000 on this despite that I don't have a source of income. In late 2021, I found someone who can properly treat me but this is very expensive. To deal with this condition I will spend about KES 10,000 on this medication. I will the n spend about KES 30,000 on buying a dairy cow. It will beimportant to have milk that will earn me a daily income. I hope to be able to meet my dayly needs properly, mainly food and payng school fees for my children easily, once I have this cow."
