"I have for the longest time been suffering from severe chest problems. The situation has never been different since I was a kid. I have visited many hospitals but have never found a permanent solution to my problem. With the health problem I have. I cannot engage myself in very strenuous jobs. This is a big disadvantage for me in terms of finding a good job that will help me in looking after myself. With the tough economic conditions we are currently in and the drought situation on top of it, it is becoming even unbearable. When I received the transfer I use a portion of it in getting medication from the hospital. I also spent the rest of the transfer in buying food and also buying water for my own use."

"I am a mother to three children. My husband currently does not have a job so do I. we depend heavily on farming. With the current situation where we are facing the worst drought in years, the situation is becoming unbearable. We are now depending on manual jobs such as fetching water for people so that we can earn a living. The water points are very far away, 60 to 100 km. I have to walk this distance every day to and fro in such of water to sell and by the end of the day, I earn as low as KSH 200. This amount is not enough to feed my family and take my children to school. When I received the transfer I spent it all on buying food for my family."

"First of all as i said i am a farmer, so i will purchase a water pump which will help me towards irrigation farming. Secondly, receiving this money means i will now buy bricks which will be used for building a house. In case i run out of money, i am sure that the money i will realise from farming will also help me."

"Reduced worry levels on where to get money to support my daily household needs is what receiving this money means to me. I intend to buy one Friessian lactating cow for KES 40000 which will earn me KES 450 daily after selling 15 liters of milk daily for KES 30 per liter. I will then spend KES 20000 to buy 5 sheep as my store of wealth, which I will sell in future after they multiply, to buy a 5,000 liter water tank for harvesting rain water during rainy seasons."

"I spent most of the money on buying a water tank. Most of the time we experience drought in our area and when this happens, the rivers dry up. Getting water hence becomes a challenge. I decided to buy the water tank so that when it rains, I can collect the rainwater and use it for my household consumption. I was not able to buy one before because I didn't have enough money. I am casually employed at a posho mill and the little money that I get most of it goes to payment of school fees for my children and buying food. I am therefore so grateful to GiveDirectly for making my dream come true."

"Something that Give directly does well is that they provide a way for vulnerable people like me to have a better life. I have been struggling with fetching and buying as it has been too expensive but thanks to this program I have been able to buy water tanks to offset the drought we have been facing."

"My life will be very different in my day-to-day life in that I have been able to buy some water tanks which would help to curb the water shortage that we are experiencing during this drought season. This would also cut down the expenses as we usually buy water at KES.25 per 25L can. I am very grateful to Give directly for this money."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying a bicycle at KES 15000 which is now helping me in carrying water from the dam. At least I no longer borrow from my friends. I also bought some building materials such as twenty-one pieces of iron sheets at KES 19950, building poles at KES 5000, and the labor charge of KES 8000. I bought all these with an ain of constructing a new house becasue the previous one was very small and with a family of five, it could not accommodate us all. I later paid fees for my children and bought them new uniforms and stationery. With the remaining amount I bought enough foodstuffs for my children and for now, we are taking at least two meals a day unlike before."
