"We spent most of the first transfer on a 3000 liter water tank to help us harvest rain water. Our aim was to curb the water problem that we've had for a long time in our region which ultimately affected our day lives. We depended on a seasonal river that was five kilometers away and when it dried up, we would be forced to buy water at a very expensive price from the local water vendors. We also launched a small chicken project where we bought 12 local breed chicken that now provides us with eggs for domestic consumption and for sale. This now means that my family can have a change in diet and whenever I sell the eggs,I can raise money for dome of the household needs without having to depend on my husband. The rest of the money was spent on foodstuff and clothing."

"Since I received my first transfers from Give Directly, a lot has changed in my life. Before, I would travel for long distances to fetch water for use especially during dry season when a nearby stream dry up. This would mean that I would waste a lot of time to and from main river. At times when we needed drinking water I would spent up to 2 hours on the que to fetch water from the water point. After I got the transfers I spend part of it on buying water pipes and connect it to our doorstep. Now I safe a lot the energy and time which I would have spend collecting water from the river. Again, I had no cow in my compound as I had sold that which I had to pay school fees for my children. Now I am happy that I bought one, the happiest part about it is that the cow is almost calving and soon we shall have milk for use at home. Lastly, my kitchen is now so clean as I got a good poultry house which accommodate my chicken. Before my kitchen would house the chicken at night and in the morning I would have to clean before preparing breakfast for my children."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as building poles, iron sheets, sand, nails, cement, a wooden door. This was for the renovation of my house which was small with some old leaking roofing. and the remaining materials were for the construction of a special house for my chicken. Previously I used to stay with them in my own house which was not hygienic and the house was small and we were always suffocating. I also used KES 15000 as his labor charge. The remaining amount of money, I used it in buying some enough foodstuffs for my family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is in that I bought a dairy cow using the money I had saved in a merry go round group. When I got my chance to receive the money from my group, I decided to buy a cow for milk production for food and also for sale. At this time, the money from selling the milk is helping to take care of my poultry. I bought a large wire mesh to expand the size of the poultry structure to accommodate more chickens. In the long run, I am going to be learning more"

"I spent part of my second transfer on paying school fees for my two sons who are in college and one in secondary school. I also bought some chicken as my living asset worthy of 2000. In addition to that, I bought some building materials such as iron sheets which cost Kes 16000. This was for the purpose of renovation of my house which had some grass-thatched roofing. It was always leaking whenever it could rain and we could always seek shelter from neighbors which were stressful. To add on that I then paid the laborer KES 8000 as his labor charge. The remaining amount of money bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life at the moment is that I have a good poultry house which I am now using to house some few chicken which I had. To me this is a great step which I had been looking forward to. Apart from that, I bought a heifer which I will use to pay dowry once I get married in the near future.
