"Before the commencement of the drought three years ago, I had plenty of livestock. 6 goats, two dairy cows, and 5 sheep. The effects of the drought were very strong, and I lost all except for three goats. When I received my transfer, I spent it on buying a goat so that I could replace the one I lost. My plan is to rear the goat and ensure it multiplies in number and accumulates wealth. I am a widow who is currently jobless and my only hope lies in immersing wealth through the rearing of livestock. My son, whom I depend on, fully works as a casual laborer, earning very little (450 per day) which is not enough to support both of us. Creating my wealth through the rearing of livestock is the best way out of uplifting my life."

"I have a child in highschool and paying school fees has been a problem to me. I need to offset a balance of KES 30,000 to safe my child from being send home frequently. I also need to buy a few cows as a plan to do beef cow production. We have a forest near our place which is good grazing place for cows. We are over joyed that Give Directly money will help us achieve our goals."

"My wish has always been to own an additional dairy cow so that once it ceases to produce milk, we can have an alternative source of milk for income generation but unfortunately, finances have been insufficient. All the income I earn from the sales of farm produces ( sweet potatoes and vegetables) caters for household food as well as school fees for my children. When I receive these transfers I intend to use KES 60000 to purchase an exotic dairy cow exclusive for milk production. I will be glad that my family of 9 will be food secure as they will have a constant supply of milk and the surplus to earn income. I will use the rest of the transfers to pay college fees for my son who completed grade 12 in April 2022."

"As a young person and a very ambitious person this is a breath of new life to my efforts to prosper in life. I am a motorcycle rider and I depend fully on this business to carry on with development projects in my family as well as to feed them. I have managed to build them a house for them through my savings and my next step was to buy them a cow. Having a herd of cows here is a good investment because there is a huge grazing ground in the nearby government land. With your transfers I would like to invest in a herd of 4 cows and this will be an investment because in the future they will have multiplied and it will help me in payment of school fees for my children."

"This money will come in very handy because my life has been all along full of tragic events even though I am still very young. I was first married off at the age of 16, this was a forced marriage because I wanted to continue my education but my parents did not want me in their house anymore because I was already pregnant. This forced me to move to my husband's place and though he welcomed me his parents were not so comfortable with me. I told my husband that I needed to go back to school and luckily he agreed to pay my school fee. He did not have a job but he struggled to make sure that I get school fees and at the same time have food in the house. It was not easy attending classes because I was pregnant and my fellow teens used to perceive me as a failure and even sometimes bully me. It was so tough for me but I was resilient because I wanted an education. I managed to deliver a baby girl and resumed studies but tragedy struck again, my husband fell sick and was terminally ill. I dropped out of school to take care of him but unfortunately lost him a month ago. These transfers will help me go back to school and complete high school education which I am so passionate about. I will also hopefully acquire two cows to help me invest some of the money."

"Receiving this money relates to accomplished projects. I am a casual laborer relying on house construction which has become hard to get. When I get one, the average wage I get on a day is KES 300. Additionally, I have a young family of 3 and the child is yet to start her education. Having other household needs to cater to, I have been unable to finish constructing the two houses; a kitchen and the main house due to the low income. I am grateful that I will soon accomplish my projects using the transfer and the remaining cash will be used to purchase a dairy cow. I will spend the first KES 20,000 to bring them into completion and purchase a dairy cow using the rest. I feel elated that Give Directly's entry into our village is timely."

"My children are about to begin school life this term. I was not able to complete my primary education as my parents could not afford to pay for my school fees. It was sad but it was a lesson I learned. Receiving this money means using 30,000 KES to start animal keeping that is three she-goats and a cow will be my start. I will let them keep multiplying by the time my children are about to join secondary school I will sell them to pay their school fees for the entire four years of school, it is something that I have longed to achieve and it is like God has approved it for me."

"Although my work of looking after some cows has been risky for me, I am equally grateful for this job. It has been my source of joy because I usually get food since it acts as my assurance to the shopkeeper who gives me food on credit. In return, my employer pays off my bills directly to him every month. Therefore, my work is what has brought happiness to me over the last 6 months."

"I am married to a polygamous family but my husband is deceased. I provide for my children with the income that I earn from selling vegetables at home. This business does not allow me the flexibility to save and provide for my children since I earn a KES 200 profit on a good day. Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to build a better house because it has been on my plans for a long time. I also plan to buy a dairy cow that will provide milk for sale and boost the income that I earn in this business."

"I plan to open a cereal shop at Mnazimmwenga center. In this locality, the demand for cereals is high. I want to use the transfers of the first 4 months to rent a 2-acre piece of land for planting the cereals ( cowpeas, beens, and green grams). I will harvest the cereals in 3 months and start supplying them to customers. This will be the continuous side hustle that will be earning me approximately 10,000 KES per harvest. I intend not to touch this income because I already have a salary from my teaching job that is sustainable. I will be saving this amount for future investments such as purchasing land."
