"I was from fetching water for my home use 60 km away from home. I arrived being very tired. While resting my phone rang and upon checking it I found out that I had received the transfer. I was very happy to receive the transfer. I was thinking hard about where I would get funds to pay school fees for my children. Now that I had received the transfer that was the best news for me"

"With my little business and the growing needs of my family, it is very hard to meet all of them. The drought has made everything expensive. I do all types of jobs at my disposal just for survival. Before receiving the transfer, I decided to start a small business of selling some Omena. The business has been picking up quite well and the challenge was to get money to add more stock to satisfy the ever-growing demand. When I received the transfer I spent KSH 300 in adding more stock for the business. I also used KSH 300 in buying food for the family. The biggest part of my transfer was used to buy water for my family. The hardship I have been experiencing in terms of finding water is big and so this was the reason why I bought water in plenty."

"The money has made a big difference to me. I was struggling with debts and on top of that, I did not have anything to eat. I was going through the hardest time of my life. With the money, I was able to purchase water which is a very rare commodity to find due to the drought situation. "

"Without any job my husband, I have been struggling a lot to make ends meet and with the increasing drought, it has been even harder to meet basic needs especially water and food. I walk for long distances to get just one jerrican of water for my use at home. With all these struggles, I spent KSH 1000 buying food for my family. I also bought water for my consumption since it is becoming very hard to find water. With the remaining amount, I paid school fees for my child who is currently in school."

"My firstborn child (daughter) is joining secondary school in the next four months. This has been worrying me since I do not have money to use as fees because what we obtain from our subsistence farming is just enough to sustain us. As such, receiving this money means an end to my worries because I will use approximately KES 50000 as fees. Also, receiving this money means that we shall be having access to more freshwater because I will acquire a 5000-liter water tank for storing rainwater. This project will cost about KES 30000."

"Receiving this money means clean and plenty water for home consumption and livestock. I live in an area that is prone to prolonged drought. The river where we fetch water is quiet some distance and since my wife is the one to, she struggles alot due to her age. My desire has been to purchase 5,000 litres water storage tank. The KES 100 per day I get from livestock keeping only caters for our up keep since we are no longer able to do casual jobs. I will use KES 25,000 to purchase the tank. This will enable us to harvest water whenever there is rain for future use. The other remaining amount of transfers I will use it to purchase another dairy cow."

"GiveDirectly did well because they changed the lives of the people in the community. The transfer that GiveDirectly sent to the people enabled them to do the things that they have always wanted to do but they were not in a position to due to lack of money. They built houses, bought livestock, paid school fees, bought furniture, water tanks, and many more. We are therefore so much grateful to GiveDirectly for what they have done to us."

"The night I saw the message, I was sitting in my kitchen warming water for bath when the message came on my phone. At that moment I started shouting, to the extent that my neighbours thought I got burned by the hot water. But it was a shout of joy. I have been planning to start a business that will be of help to improve the livelihood of my family and raising cash from the farming work was a difficult thing to do. Interestingly this transfer is a dream come through."

"We have been in a drought all through this year. We barely had enough food to eat let alone water to drink. Many live stocks are dying and we are just holding on. With this money, I decided to spend KES.2200 on food and water as we have to buy water. I also decided to pay school fees worth KES.800 for my three children. This will allow them to do exams as well as continue with their studies. This is all thanks to Give directly."

"I had woken up early to go fetch water at the nearing water point so that I do not get tired when the sun comes out. After some back and forth I heard my phone vibrate with a notification. It was around nine o'clock when I saw that I did indeed get the transfer. I was so happy that I could ensure my family had a good breakfast that day."
