"I am married in a polygamous family. My husband's main occupation is a traditional doctor and since I do not have any other source of income, the family has solely depended on him. His finances are not consistent and mostly that makes us sleep on an empty stomach due to lack of money to buy food. Seeing my grandchildren going to bed hungry sadness my heart and this why receiving this money will help me to provide for them easily for a while. My plan is to set aside 15,000 KES for food, 15,000 KES to bring piped water to my compound which is something that I have been dreaming of doing for a while now because it will save me the energy that I have been using every day to fetch water. Another big project that I have been working on starting but lack of sufficient finances has hindered me from achieving is poultry keeping. This project will cost me around 40,000 KES to kick it off then finally spend the remaining 40,000 KES to buy a bull."

"I had a plan of getting piped water but lack of finances made it impossible to do so until in Nov when I managed to get a work contract in a nearby school that earned me some money. I used the cash to fulfill the plan and also bought a stock of food that lasted us for 2 months. This brought joy and happiness to my life."

"Education is key for the growth of a society. I will use my transfer to pay school fees for my daughter who is currently in form one. I have a pending few of 30,000KES. I will also use the remaining amount to install piped water in my home. I do walk a longer distance of about four kilometers to fetch water. The cost of installing a tap is 25000 KES. My family will then have access to clean water."

I will use my transfer to install tapped water to my compound which goes at around 20,000 KES. I will spend the remaining amount on the renovation of my house and the purchase of goats."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is clearance of my daughter's this terms school fees. Before the transfers, my daughter had been sent home due to alot of arrears but GiveDirectly has relieved me of this burden. Another major difference made by GiveDirectly transfers is water accessibility because I bought a water tank which can store water for a longer time. I had desired to have a water tank for the past 15 years but couldn't afford."

"After receiving the first cash transfer, I opted to first construct a house for my son which he can use to study and spend his night. With Kshs.25,000 I used to purchase all materials and also inclusive of labor. I am so grateful that the house is complete and my son is enjoying the conducive environment. I also bought a 500litres tank at Kshs.2,000 so that I can use it to fetch water during the rainy season hence will not walk far distances to fetch water. With Kshs.4,000 I bought a donkey which I can use to go and fetch water from the river since it is far from home especially during dry seasons. With the remaining amount, I used in buying furniture for my newly constructed houses, food, and other household items."

"This being a drought-prone area, getting safe water for domestic use is a challenge because the nearest water pan is 2kilometers away. Every day I spend 4 hours fetching water and transporting it on my back home using a 20-liter jerrican. This job is strenuous for a 68-year-old woman like myself and it often leaves me with chest pains. I have a desire to own a 3000-liter water tank to help me harvest rainwater to save me the pain of going to fetch every other morning. Receiving this money will enable me to buy a water tank so that I do not have to fetch water every other day."
