"The transfer has brought a big difference in our lives as a family. We now have milk for our consumption having bought the cow and hence we no longer incur the cost of buying some. Our children have not been sent home due to school fees arrears and hence they have had ample time to study."

"It was at 5 pm when I was done with the day's work and looking after my cows as they graze that I thought of checking my phone. I found out that I had a new unread message which I opened. I was pleasantly surprised and happy when I read that I had received KES 55000 in my mobile money account from GiveDirectly. I hurriedly went back to the house since I was eager to break the good news to my family who was so happy upon hearing it. I then prepared myself and I went to buy special food for them to celebrate the great blessing."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the presence of a lactating cow that has consistently provided my family of five with at least a liter of milk every morning. After a hard spell of seven months of buying milk from the neighborhood, I am glad that I can now afford a smile every time I get to the cowshed to milk."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the distinct growth witnessed after the complete payment of the piece of land and the plentiful supply of milk from the dairy cow that I bought. At the moment, I am no longer buying milk like I used to do but selling the surplus from my farm."

"As a single mother of four, it has never been easy providing for my children both at home and meeting their financial obligations in school. I was so happy to receive this support that I had to clear KES 25000 arrears for my two sons who had completed their secondary school studies but could not collect their certificates since we had an enormous debt. They are now happy with their certificates at hand and hoping to use them once an opportunity to further their studies comes up. I also spent KES 17000 on a bullock that I am rearing with the intent to sell it out later at a profit that would enable me to bring in a dairy cow. At the moment, the cost of livestock had been so high, and a bullock was the cheapest and most appropriate since I deemed it to grow faster. In addition, I spent KES 5900 of the remaining amount on obtaining a bag of maize and rice for foodstuff for my family of five, and the remaining amount on general outfits for my daughter. I am grateful for the support and looking forward to doing a lot more with the second transfer."

"The receipt of the first transfer was the best thing to have happened to my family. Upon withdrawal, I spent KES 35,000 on buying a dairy cow. For a long time, we had been buying milk from my neighborhood. I am happy that us milking two liters of milk per day has ended the huge spending on buying every day and we have diverted the money to other household needs. With KES 10,000 I spent on purchasing two sheep and once they multiply we will sell them to cater for school fees payment for our children in secondary school. With the remaining amount, I spent on buying maize and clothes for my household members."

"Our priority upon receiving our recent transfer was to buy a cow which cost us KES 30000. We didn't own one and hence we had been incurring the cost of buying milk for our consumption. We had thought of buying one but unfortunately, we were not in a position to, since we didn't have the money. I usually do the business of buying and selling maize while my husband usually does casual work of digging boreholes. The money that we earn is not much and it is only enough to meet our basic needs. That aside, we also took KES 10000 that we spent on paying school fees for our five children and another KES 5000 on buying clothes for them. We also bought food with KES 5000, and with the remaining amount, we gave it out at church as a tithe. For this, we are grateful to GiveDirectly for their big support."

"We spent KES 4500 and KES 6000 of our recent transfer on buying barbed wire and trees respectively. We subdivided our land and fenced it because we wanted our cows to graze on it rotationally. Other than that, we also bought another cow at KES 25000. We only had one cow and when it is dry, we are usually forced to buy milk. We thus decided to buy another one to ensure a constant supply of milk for consumption and sale. We have been hoping for a while now to accomplish the above tasks but we were not in a position to since we didn't have the money. Being small-scale dairy and poultry farmers, we usually depend on the sale of milk and eggs to earn a living. Sometimes we hatch the chicks and sell them. The money that we get is not much, it is only enough to meet our basic needs. We are thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly because their transfer enabled us to achieve our goals. With the remaining transfer amount, we spent KES 6000 on buying a bag of maize for our consumption, and some clothes, and we sent some to our daughter in the university to use in paying her house rent and for upkeep."

"Upon withdrawing the money, I first paid KES 1590.00 school fees for my two primary school children who had been sent home for the same. I also opted to pay the fee arrears of KES 1590.00 which I was unable to pay for the previous term. I also bought four goats for KES 14450.00. I decided to buy goats over a cow because goats are more resistant to drought than cows and our area has often been affected by drought. Thereafter, I bought seven iron sheets for KES 4900.00 to construct a house for my children. Having done that, I used the remaining amount for the family’s upkeep."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the purchase of a dairy cow which is now a source of milk. As a result, my kids can now take breakfast well unlike before when they used to go to school without breakfast."
