"GiveDirectly does several things well, primarily being the most obvious, helping people with financial challenges. In our village, people have been able to build houses, pay school fees, bought water tanks to store water and a host of hundreds of other things that have changed their lives, for good. In the process, I have observed that GiveDirectly excel at amazing communication and accountability - they explain things very well in plain language, have empathy and integrity- seeing as I have never been asked for anything in return for their assistance, most importantly do a great job in finding people who really, truly need their funds and making their lives better. I have nothing negative to say about GiveDirectly. I hope their continue to do their good work for years to come."

"I have been wanting to build a new structure for my lovely family of six children. I had been planning to build myself and my family a house but this goal became an unrealizable due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. Thanks to GiveDirectly I received all my transfers of KES 110,000. I have kick off the building process which has cost me roughly KES 70,000. I also managed to buy some cattles worth KES 23,000. The remaining KES 17,000 I have used it in settling small basic need like food, water and electricity."

"I am a peasant farmer with a family of 7 members lately we have experienced drought which has made farming quite impossible .I was forced to start selling fried fish because my husband is ailing from Ashtma hence he has not been working yet he is the breadwinner in our family.I used my first transfer of kes 300 to pay part of schoolfees for my children in primary school and bought 7 packets of maize floor for kes700 and due to water shortage I bought water for kshs 250 which I paid only 200 and promised to pay the balance the next day.The second transfer helped me because my husband was still unwell.I paid kes 1500 for secondary children has the school had imposed hefty fine for the fire that caused destruction of property, I bought a bale of maize for kes 1200 ,body lotion for kes 80 and bought sardines for kes 120 so as to sell and get some profit."

"I spent KES 15,000 to purchase 5 goats this was to accomplish my goal of owning livestock a future investment for my kid's educational needs. I also used KES 2000 to clear the fee balances of my two children who are still in primary school. Similarly, I bought one pair of school uniforms for each one of them. Previously, they were going to school in casual clothes unlike the pupils, I was very ashamed whenever I escort them to school every day. Furthermore, I bought a bed and mattress for KES 10,000 this is because I was using old rags as beddings which were uncomfortable. With the remaining amount, I bought sufficient food and water because we are experiencing drought and famine in our area."

"I spent my transfer to educate my 3 grandchildren who are in secondary school, they are in form 1, 3, and 4 respectively. I used KES 20,000 to settle their fee arrears. In addition, I used 5,000 to purchase pairs of clothes for my spouse and I since we were wearing worn-out clothes that were embarrassing whenever I attended community gatherings. I saved some of the remaining amount to restart livestock rearing once the drought is over since most of my animals died because of the lack of pasture and water due to the drought conditions in our area. I am planning to purchase 4 goats when it rains. In addition, I bought enough food and water with the remaining part."

"I spent KES 8500 to purchase a bed and mattress. I had desired to own a modern bedding which is more comfortable that the traditional ones that I had been using. I also bought 3 goats for KES 9,000 a long term investment for my life. I will be able to sell them to cater for any emergency that I might encounter in the future. In addition, I used KES 5,000 to supporting my grandchild who is in secondary school by paying part of his fees. Furthermore, I used KES 6,000 to repair my bicycle which I had been using to fetch water for my family. Due to the famine that we are experiencing in our area I bought enough food with the remaining amount."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in my life and that of my family. This is because with the water tank that we bought, we have been able to collect some rain water. We now have access to clean water and we no longer make long trips to the river to fetch water. We also no longer incur the cost of buying water."

"I began doing zero-grazing one year ago and has its share of challenges since it requires enough feeds and water. My major challenge is getting clean water for the animals since I rely on a nearby small dam that dries when the area is dry. Receiving this money will be a relief to me because it will enable me to buy a water pump, pipes, and a storage tank and store the water pumped from the dam. This will come in handy when our area dries."

"The first transfer reached me when my child was sick so it all went towards treatment and paying for hospital bills. I used the second transfer to repair my leaking house. My house was leaking so bad and whenever it rained we had to deal with water getting into the house. I therefore, bought cement and used it to repair the leaks."
