Silivia
received a $465 initial payment.
"Upon withdrawing the money, I bought four goats for KES 14000.00 because they have a faster birthrate compared to cows. Since I had no bed nor a mattress and I was sleeping on the floor, I saw it better to spend KES 11200.00 to buy a nice modern bed and a mattress. I also used KES 1200.00 to buy and fix a door to my house which has been without a door for a while. I have desired to have my piece of land where in the future I will make a home, therefore I used KES 10000.00 to start as a deposit to a piece of land that I am aiming to purchase. Thereafter, I paid KES 4000.00 school fees for my children so that they be retained in school for better learning. The remaining amount, I used in buying food for my family."

Sofhia
received a $465 initial payment.
"After all my children moved out to start their own families, I had been living with one of my grandchildren in a small thatched hut that was already wearing out on the roof. During the enrollment period, my plans were apparent in that I needed to put up a new house to replace the old one that was already leaking on the roof. I spent KES 25000 on obtaining the construction materials and paying part of the labor cost on the great construction work that is going on at the moment. Hopefully that I will soon see the structure complete and moving in will be my happiness. I also bought a bullock at KES 20000 that I am fattening to sell out in the future at a profit. Since I have a plentiful supply of milk from my two lactating cows, I could not buy more of them. I transferred the remaining amount to that savings account and will be useful in checking the consumables on the ongoing construction work."

Mercy
received a $450 second payment.
"I would like to buy a piece of land in the near future and in preparation to that, I have made a step towards acquiring that which will help me realize my goal. I have bought one cow which is incalf and a young bull which I will rear untill it matures. I will save money which I will be getting from the sale of milk and later sell the offspring plus fully mature bull then a acquire a piece of land which I needed. Before, I was wondering if I will be in a position to buy some more piece of land as that which we have now is too small for us to do farming and rear animals."

Grace
received an initial payment.
"I used KES 40000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy food for the family. ught a dairy cow worth KES 40000 and used the remaining amount to buy food for the family I made a decision to buy a dairy cow since it is the main source of livelihood here. I have one but it has not been very reliable in terms of sustaining the needs of family all year round. It is for this reason that I decided to buy a second one that will make it possible for us to meet the needs of our family all year round. I bought one with a young calf and I am already milking 2 litres pee day."

"Being in a position to purchase the best breed of a dairy cow is the biggest difference in my daily life. This was one of our priorities. We have always wanted to invest in diary-keeping projects and are always the best breed. This was our chance to do it, We purchased a dairy cow that was worth KES 100,000 we had deposited KES 50,000 on the first transfer. We are so grateful because we now own it. I am a teacher by profession and I get a salary every month. Due to the recurrent basic household needs and school fees for our children we were not in a position to save some money to buy this breed. Currently, we have enough milk for the family and sell the extra milk to earn an income daily. I save the money with the hope of purchasing another dairy cow in the future. We are so grateful because GiveDirectly has fulfilled our wishes. We loved dairy keeping and we will improve this and make it our main source of income."

"The biggest difference in my daily life now is that I now have a dairy cow. Before purchasing it, I had to conduct research and even made a market survey for dairy products and found out it's profitable in our village. Since am a salonist and my spouse is a casual Labour the income I'll get from the cow will greatly help me to meet my daily needs and also pay school fees for my four children once they transition to secondary schools. I am so thankful to GiveDirectly for bringing such a huge impact on my life since I was even hopeless."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the dairy cow that I bought. I had not been able to raise enough money to buy a dairy cow since the amount of money that I got from my casual work was hardly enough to enable us make ends meet. I had sold all the livestock that I had to treat my children who fell ill and I was left with none. I feel so much happy to have benefitted from this program and feel so much happy to now own a dairy cow. This to me is the biggest difference in my daily life."

"The biggest difference in my life today is that I was able to purchase a dairy cow with the unconditional transfer. Secondly, I was able to purchase iron sheets that I am positive would aid in constructing a house once I receive my transfer. I was unable to realise this goal due to financial constraints, and I am now able to save up money that I used to spend on milk daily. I am contented that I was able to achieve my dream in a short period. I am grateful for the support that uplifted our lives amazingly."

Agnes
received a $466 initial payment.
"Before receiving the first transfer, I was living in a single house that was so small for my family of five. Being a priority, I had to start the construction of a new house as soon as I received the money. I am glad that after spending KES 20600 on buying 22 iron sheets and building poles, my house is now complete, and will soon be moving in after furnishing. I also obtain a heifer at KES 15000 to add to the existing dairy cow. This will enhance an increased production of milk in the future that will, in turn, help in paying school fees for my children who are still in school. With the remaining transfer, I spent KES 10000 on school fees for my two children currently in secondary school, and the remaining on settling the labor charges and obtaining foodstuff for my family."
