"I used to sell vegetables fresh vegetables before, but I was forced to take a break after I gave birth. My husband does any available casual jobs to make ends meet. Upon the receipt of our transfer, my husband and I agreed on developing a parcel of land that we had in town. This is because we knew that we will be able to earn good money, thus we used KES 41,000 on purchasing iron sheets. Secondly, we bought two cows with the remaining amount to cut down on the expenses of buying milk. We were unable to accomplish all these before due to financial constraints but I am glad that with the support that I got, I have made a milestone with it."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the purchase of a dairy cow that I am hopefully will help a lot in providing milk for my family. I had been buying milk a lot and the presence of a cow has brought back the hope of spending less in the future."

"My kitchen was leaking since the roof was dilapidated and I could not renovate it on time. I had to look for somewhere else to do my cooking whenever it rains. My living house doesn't have enough space as well. I thus spent the transfer on buying building materials which include 14 pieces of iron sheets, nails and poles and renovated the kitchen. I am no longer worried about the rains since I can now do my cooking at any time. In addition to this, I also purchased a heifer worthy Ksh .15500 and added it to my cowshed. These are my assets which I can readily sell the offspring to help cater for my financial needs. Apart from this, I also spent Ksh 5000 to pay for my grandson's fees. They were sent home because I failed to pay for them on time. I am at peace seeing them continue with their studies without interruptions on school fees."

"I spent Ksh. 15000 of my first transfer on buying a heifer which I am currently keeping on my homestead. To me, this is the greatest achievement since my desire was to own livestock. My husband has been keeping this livestock, which has so far helped us sustain the basic needs through the sale of milk. I thus settled on the heifer, which will be a great addition to the cowshed. Apart from this, I also spent Ksh. 18000 on paying fees for my two children, one in high school and the other in college. I am greatly relieved because I have enough time to prepare for the next payment. I believe I will be able to gather enough finances for the next payment. I am happy that they are now comfortably going on with their studies. I spent the remaining amount on shopping for household basic needs which include foodstuffs that will take us quite some time before buying food again."

"For several years, I have been sleeping on the floor because I did not have a bed. When I withdrew the money, I bought a bed for KES 6500.00 and a mattress for KES 4500.00. I also paid KES 4000.00 school fees for my five primary school children so that they get enough time in school without being interrupted. Thereafter, I bought four goats for KES 14000.00 and a cow for KES 20000.00 to mark and have a symbol of GiveDirectly at my home. I also started a business of buying and selling livestock so that I can generate some income to upkeep, my family."

"I initially had two cows but I wanted to have more so that I could eventually grow my farm and also so that they could help me financially when they had calves and domestically when they helped me till the land during the rainy season. So I went ahead and bought one cow which was worth KES 14,500. Afterwards I went on to buy a bed and mattress with KES 12,300 because I wanted my husband and I had been sleeping on the cold hard ground on mats for over a year. I also paid tuition fee for my four children worth KES 5,000 because they had been out of school for over two days and used KES 2,400 and ensured I purchased new school uniform for them. I ended using KES 4,500 to buy then new clothes and as for the rest of the funds I used it making meals available for my family and I."

"I am really glad that the funds helped to finally settle the debt in fees that my children had because were it not for me paying the school they would have probably not been able to resume school when they opened. So that left me feeling quite relived. Not forgetting that I was finally able to buy a cow which I wanted to for the longest time."

"The money which I received from GiveDirectly enabled me to pay school fees for my children, acquire a dairy cow and build a house for my family. The burden which I had was that of paying school fees for my children and now having paid fees for two terms, I feel much relieved. The money which I will be earning from the sale of farm produce and casual jobs shall enable me to save money for school fees for next year. My children wouldn't be sent home like it use to be before when I couldn't pay school fees in good time."

"I used KES 13000 to buy a cow and used KES 8000 to buy pieces of iron sheets and used another KES 3000 to buy a mattress and the remaining amount was used to buy food. These are the things that I had prioritized doing. The dairy cow was so that I would be able to raise money to meet emergency needs in future and as for the pieces of iron sheets, this was to make sure that I get to accumulate building materials to put up a house for my brother who has been staying with me for the longest time."
