Paul
received a $463 initial payment.
"From the time I received my transfer and prioritized buying a cow, my family has witnessed a tremendous change in its lifestyle. Initially, we could not only struggle to get food but also obtaining milk looked too expensive for us. I had no option but to rather buy milk in the event we need some for our household consumption. However, having a cow now, I do not need to spend money on this precious commodity anymore. As a result, I have begun experiencing a big relief. Fortunately, the family has access to free milk, one of the most nutritious food."

Mercy
received an initial payment.
"What I count as the biggest positive change in my life is owning two calves. In my life, I had never raised any cow although I had been longing for that. Being in a state of not having any livestock, I was always regarded as a person of the lowest status in my community. Some community members were always looking down upon me especially my extended family because I always depended on them to get milk for my children. I am glad because in a span of one year, hopefully, my cows will be mature enough to produce milk."

Enock
received a $463 initial payment.
"Before my transfer, I was considered a fellow with very low status in our community. Unfortunately, I did not have a large number of assets on which to rely. However, for the time being, the most significant improvement in my life has been the acquisition of an additional cow. I used to have one cow, but now I have two. With more cows, I and my family will have plenty of milk for daily consumption, and some of it will be a source of extra income for my family."

Irine
received a $463 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that the financial transfers have empowered me to own livestock( the dairy cow and goat). It has been my dream to have them since they are the most valuable assets with numerous benefits. Also, they can thrive so well in my region because the climate is favourable. I however purchased them purposely for my two children's education journey. They are now in grade two, in primary school and I felt there is still a long way to go for them to graduate and grab jobs. Being a single parent who depends on low-paying jobs, I wouldn't be able to pay for their fees once they transition to secondary schools and colleges. As time goes by, the cows and goats will have multiplied. I now have peace of mind and hopeful that my children's life will be brighter courtesy of GiveDirectly."

Keter
received a $463 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to accomplish my dreams in a short period. I was able to purchase a dairy cow which I never thought that I would have any time soon due to financial constraints. Secondly, I was able to buy decent clothes for my family. My children are all happy and excited to have the new clothes since the ones that they had were already old and some were worn out, And lastly, we have enough foodstuffs in the house. I am grateful to the organization for putting smiles on our faces and for transforming our living standards."

Chepkoech
received an initial payment.
"Before being enrolled in the program, as a family, we struggled more to obtain just two meals a day. The rise in the cost of milk and maize flour among other essential commodities subjected us to more suffering. Nonetheless, even though I was able to buy a cow and goats, the outstanding difference in my life is the relief from hunger. The scenario was bad, being forced to spend KES 500 for a single-family need as opposed to the previous KES 200. Thanks to GiveDirectly for coming to my family's aid with the transfer."

Peter
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life has been realizing my dream of owning a cow. I have wished to do this for a long time, but it had been difficult because I did not have a steady source of income. I am so grateful that I can get free milk from the cow every day. To help the family, we will sell some of the milk to generate additional income. As a result, our food supply will be more stable, which will benefit my family greatly."

Pola
received a $463 initial payment.
"Upon withdrawing the money, I first decided to offset a loan of KES 20000.00 that I borrowed to purchase a motorbike. Offsetting the loan meant I would be saving all the money that I get from the daily work I do with the motorbike. Initially, I had to pay KES 200.00 every day to the microfinance for the motorbike. The daily payments were difficult since some days I could not manage to get my family's daily food as well as pay the loan due to my low income. I also bought 10 pieces of iron sheets for KES 9500.00 to add a room to my single-room house to accommodate my family well. This is because the house was congested. Thereafter, I bought a bed and a mattress for KES 5400.00 and KES 6400.00 respectively. This was a long-time desire since I had been sleeping on the floor for a while. Sleeping on the floor is a tiring thing but if you have no alternative that will be the only way to go. To make a mark on GiveDirectly in my life, I bought a she-goat for KES 2700.00. I preferred the goat over a cow because goats have a faster birth rate and soon I will be having several goats at my home."

Wesley
received an initial payment.
"I was able to purchase two cows for KES 45,000 and a goat for KES 7,000 from my transfer. As a result, I now have an increased asset value that I have never had before in my life. Because I have three school-aged children, this type of investment will be extremely beneficial to them because if school fees are required, I will sell some milk. Alternatively, if necessary, I will be able to sell goats and provide the anticipated financial assistance to my children. The GiveDirectly transfer has had a significant impact on my life."

Diana
received an initial payment.
"The biggest difference I have noticed since receiving GiveDirectly transfers is an abrupt change in my socioeconomic status, Previously, I was too poor to own even a goat but currently I am owning one lactating cow and a bull. I can always count on milk from the cow. What was once only a nightmare has become a real-life experience for me. As a result, the family is now assured of daily meals because we cannot live without milk. We now eat well, and our health is better than it was before the transfer."
