"Having my own motorbike has brought the biggest difference in my daily life. Since my spouse is an experienced driver and for all those years he was employed by his friends and he was paid on commission. The money was too little for the family upkeep and paying for our children's fees was not easy. Because sometimes he was not even paid simply because maybe the given day was unproductive. For now, I am hopeful and happier because currently using my own motorbike, and whatever he is getting for the day is all ours. Meeting our family's needs has become easy and I no longer struggle like in the past years."

"Lack of a reliable source of income that can support the needs of my family has been my biggest hardship. I purely depend on motorcycle taxis but this income is hardly enough to sustain our needs. I only earn 200 shillings on a day which is not even enough to cater for foodstuff."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own goats which are assets to me. My expectation is that they will reproduce and increase in number. I am planning to educate my children who are still young through these goats. I can readily sell the offsprings to raise school fees for them. Thus this is a saving for the future of my children's education. Owning the goats makes the biggest difference in my daily life."

"The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me in buying a cow and I have been able to finish paying for a piece of land that I had bought. I did not have my cow, the cows that are there are for the whole family and I had that desire to have my own. I have also always wanted another piece of land where I can farm and eventually soon move to. The piece of land that is at home, has become small because the population has grown. There is, therefore, no more land to till. The reason why I was not able to do the above was that I lacked the money, the little money that I have been making from the work that I do, is usually just enough to cater to the basic needs of the family like food. With this cow, we will be able to have milk for our consumption and sale. I have started tilling the land and I plan to plant some crops in it. The yields from these crops will act as a source of food for my family and we will be able to sell part of it."

"My parents separated in the year 2002 because of reasons I am yet to find out. I am not in a good relationship with my biological father just because he hates my mother. I love him so much and I wish we could enjoy a harmonious relationship just like other families. He has told me countless times that he wishes I died when I was young. He has made several attempts to kill me with a machete but thank God he has been unsuccessful in all. I have pleaded with him to forgive me just in case I wronged him unknowingly but my plea has always been falling on deaf ears."

"I am a motorcycle taxi rider who is employed by the owner of the motorcycle. Receiving this money will help me own a motorcycle which will mean that I will pocket all the profit. This has always been my wish. A second hand motorcycle will cost me around $ 400. I will then use $ 200 to expand my house to one extra room. My current house is one tiny room which is very squeezed considering that my children are growing."

"This money means that I will now be able to buy food for the family. As a family we are also thinking of starting a small scale business of selling tomatoes and second hand clothes. My husband is a bicycle taxi driver and with this money he may quit transporting people on a bicycle and start running a more profitable business."

"As a motorcycle taxi operator, business booms in the morning when people are rushing to their places of work. This makes morning the happiest part of my day. I earn more money compared to the other hours of the day. A good morning will determine how well my day will end."
