Kahindi
received a $503 initial payment.
"The transfer has enabled me to buy two second hand motorcycles which are now a source of income to my family. I gave them to my sons who are offering taxi services at a fee. They were initially employed by neighbours but they were getting little income from the taxi services. This is because they had to share the daily proceeds with the owners. Having their own motorcycles makes it to be the biggest difference in my daily life since I am assured of getting an increased income to effectively cater for my family's basic needs. They no longer have to share the proceeds with anyone."

Gilbert
received a $493 initial payment.
"I spent KES 30,000 of my transfer on a heifer which is currently six months pregnant.I used to buy two cups of milk per day amounting to KES 600 per month because I didn't have any dairy cow. I also spent KES 5000 on adding stock to my Kangumu business in order to generate income and now it's doing well because. Initially, I used to work as motorcycle taxi man for one year and it wasn't bearing fruit. KES 5000 was spent on ten chicken layers because it will be a source of income for my family. KES 16000 was spent on clothing because we didn't have clothing for special occasions. KES 4000 was spent on a goat in order to act as alternative milk supply during my dairy cow dry period."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is abundance of peace and happiness in my house. This is because the transfers have relieved us of school fees and food burden. I am now stress free and my kids are eating well. Before, we used to rely on my milk selling business and my husband's motorcycle taxi business in order to pay fees and buy food for my family. We are therefore grateful to GiveDirectly for coming through for us."

Enock

"The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me in several ways. I wanted to start a project of rearing chicken. I hence bought a chicken wire that was placed all around the chicken house and I bought the chickens for rearing. I was inspired to start this project because I had seen someone else in my neighborhood doing it. The guy is doing so well in terms of the sale of the chicken products. The chickens are also easy to manage. The transfer also helped me in repaying the last installment of 10000/= of a loan that I still owed the bank. I had taken a loan to buy a motorbike for my business. I have been repaying it for quite some time and I was about to complete repaying it. I also took part of the money, 7000/=, and used it in repairing the motorbike and having it serviced. I also bought some chairs and tables, and with the remaining amount, I bought food for the chickens. I have always wanted to start the project of rearing chickens but due to lack of enough money, I have not been in a position to do so. I have been repaying the motorbike loan and it has been taking up a lot of money. I usually repay an amount of 9500/= every month and hence I usually end up with a little amount of money that is not enough to invest in any other thing. So when I got this money, I saw an opportunity that I had been waiting for and hence I decided to seize it."
