"I used KES 35000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy clothes for my family. Dairy keeping is one of the main economic activities that we engage in here at our village and since I did not own one, i thought of buying one with the transfers. With this dairy cow I will not only be able to have profits with it reproducing but also reduce the cost of living for me and my family."

"I have never desired to have a business of my own until I was enrolled into GiveDirectly program. I saw the transfers as the best opportunity I have ever gotten since I have been living unbearable and tough life due to increased cost of living. My entire life I have been living in the village of Bamba with no good source of income since the day my wife passed. I have been surviving and feeding my family of 7 through making and selling of charcoals and rearing livestock. Receiving the transfer brought a new hope of light in my life that I never thought I would one day live to achieve. I was overjoyed to an extent that I wouldn't just express in words. When I got the transfer, I started yearning for new goals of my life. I never knew one day I would have livestock and motorcycle under my name, through GiveDirectly transfers, I have added two more livestock (cows). Furthermore, I bought my own motorcycle to serve as my mainly source of livelihood. I can proudly say that I bought a second-hand motorcycle worth KES 40,000, I am very happy for this great achievement of my life and so grateful for the support provided by GiveDirectly. Thank you GiveDirectly."

"With my family of three, we lived in a small house that has sheltered us for the past three years. On receiving the second transfer, my household saw a need to construct a spacious house to provide a playing ground for my kid. I spent KES 30000 on both construction materials purchases and also paying the labor charges. The cow I bought at KES 20000 has been providing milk for my family. I later spent the remaining amount on buying a goat I am currently rearing, with the hope to sell it out in the future whenever a financial need arises. I am grateful for the improvement I have made in my family."

"Providing for my family of seven has been a challenge in the past few months when we had to buy milk to supplement the dry period for the only dairy cow we had. Even though my household had a lot lined up to be accomplished, it was my prayer that we would invest more in livestock farming to minimize the cost of buying milk in the future. We could not buy a cow with the first transfer but were glad to finally find a good breed at KES 35000 with the second transfer. In addition, I spent KES 10000 on buying a calf from the neighborhood that I am currently rearing with the herd. I also paid school fees for my child in form two with the remaining amount. I needed to clear his term's fees to allow me more time to concentrate on other projects that will help in raising more money to pay for the coming terms."

"When I received the second transfer, I had savings of KES 10000.00 from the first transfer. Therefore I had KES 63150.00. Since my dad passed away and my mum could not afford to cater to all the family's needs, I opted to take on some parental duties to assist her. My young brother who is in form four was out of school due to school fees plus some fee arrears amounting to KES 30000.00. I saw it prudent to settle the fees issue so that he could resume his studies. As of now, he is in school. I also bought four high-breed goats for KES 24000.00. I preferred goats over cows because they procreate faster, have a ready market and they are drought resistant bearing in mind that our area is somehow semi-arid. Thereafter, I paid some examination money for my lower primary child and used the rest to buy some clothes and food for the family."

"I have a dairy cow that is currently lactating and has been providing my family of three with enough milk. On receiving the second transfer, I bought another heifer at KES 28000. Adding another cow to my field has been a good feeling for me, knowing that I will soon alternate their breeding periods, hence not going a season without milk in my family. In addition, I also spent KES 4800 on a sheet that I am currently rearing with the preexisting flock. I also spent KES 6000 on a piece of furniture for my new house, and the remaining amount on buying foodstuff and new pairs of clothes for my family of three. I am grateful for the support from GiveDirectly that has pushed me to work harder with the projects I am currently doing."

"I used KES 29000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 18000 to pay school fees for my daughter who is in form three while the remaining amount was used to buy clothes for my children. Had I not received money from GiveDirectly I would not have paid the school fees in full yet. This is because I rely on motorcycle hustle to raise such money which would ha e taken me longer to accumulate just enough. I feel so much indebted to givedirectly fir the support. It has brought so much joy to our family as a whole."

"I used KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy food and other basic household needs for my family. We normally rely on my husband who works as a security for a company in the city to meet all our needs as a family. I feel so much indebted to have been part of the beneficiaries of this program and that for once I have been able to give a helping hand to my husband."

"I bought four chickens with the whole of the first transfer. I settled on this intending to sell them in the future after they will reproduce to raise money for purchasing goats. This is my journey to having livestock majorly dairy cows. I had chicken sometimes back, but they all succumbed to poultry infection and since then I have not been able to rear anymore. Through this, I hope to get to the level of owning cows, and I am planning to achieve it by selling goats in the future to raise money for the cows. I sell toothbrushes but I do not earn enough income to sustain my family. The livestock will be a boost to my household in terms of income generation."

"After constructing a new house with the first transfer, I also left to make the interior furnishing, buy a new piece of furniture, and all other household goods that were missing with the second transfer. I spent KES 5000 on two mattresses, one for my children and the other one that I am currently using, bought some kitchenware at KES 2500, and a piece of furniture worth KES 3000. In addition, I bought a sheep worth KES 5000 to add to the pre-existing flock. Investing in livestock is a long-term project I hope will boost school fees payment for my four children in the future. I gave the remaining amount to my husband, who is currently looking for a lactating breed of cow. We already have one buy has been producing an inconsiderable amount of milk that forces us to buy more for our household use. I am grateful for all the support from GiveDirectly and the steps we have taken in transforming our living standards."
