"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I now own my own motorcycle. Due to this, my daily income has increased from KES 100 to around KES 500 or more depending with how the day was. Due to this, I have been able to meet our daily needs on time and without much struggle. Running my own business has also enabled me to spend more time with my family and closely oversee some work at home."

Samuel
received a $492 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly is such a unique organization becasue ever since I was born I have never come across any organization which gives out unconditional money which is non-refundable. The entire village has now changed and this is evident through the livestock that most of on which still feels like a dream to us. Also, the beautiful houses whereby back in the days they were just temporary huts. On the other hand, GiveDirectly has not done anything wrong."

Gilbert
received a $492 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. I am a motorcycle taxi rider and the amount of money that I get through this is so small and I was not in a position to buy a dairy cow. Currently I own a dairy cow and I no longer buy milk. The amount of money that I could have used to buy milk I invest on other income generating project like poultry keeping. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and for the people in my village."

Mercy
received a $510 initial payment.
"When I received my transfers, I spent around 20000 to buy some timber to use in building a shop. We are planning to use our second transfer to open a shop where we will be selling all household provisions and we thought it wise to build our own room instead of renting it. Also, I bought a heifer worth KES 12000 as a way of investing this money. When it reproduces, I will be able to sale milk to my neighbors and use the income to support my children's education. Using the remaining amount, I bought some clothes, food and other household necessities for my family."

Kiplangat
received a $493 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been had I never received the transfer because I am now a new person. I was able to buy a second-hand motorcycle using my first transfer and without GiveDirectly, this would not have been possible. Due to this, I no longer do some odd jobs around the neighborhood like before. Having a stable source of income has enabled me to cater for my family needs on time. Also, I nowadays have enough time to spend with my family in the evening."
