Karembo
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"As I mentioned earlier my husband is a casual worker in the sense that he does jobs when there are some available. He sometimes is a driver, sometimes he is working in a construction site and other times taking motorcycle rides. I would want a more stable income even as our children grow older and so this is my reason for investing my money in the business. I plan to continue investing the business so that we can use the proceeds to take the children through school."

Cosmus
received a $336 second payment.
"After receiving my recent transfer, I prioritized my family's well-being. I spent $20 and $100 on beds for my children and I respectively, addressing the immediate need for comfortable sleeping arrangements as our existing beds were damaged. With $90, I purchased essential clothing for my kids, both home clothing and school uniforms, replacing what was lost in a house fire. To support our future, I allocated $10 for my wife's dowry, upholding cultural values. Recognizing the potential of her tailoring business, I invested $70 in additional stock, aiming for long-term financial stability. Finally, I used the remaining funds to alleviate the strain of my physically demanding job of repairing motorbikes as well as riding boda boda to make ends meet by purchasing nutritious food for the family. This strategic allocation aimed to meet immediate needs, invest in the future, and provide comfort amid challenging circumstances."

Teresa
received a $290 second payment.
"We plan to cultivate mangoes on our one-acre land in the upcoming years. Mangoes thrive and are relatively unaffected by drought conditions. This strategic move aims to reduce our heavy reliance on casual jobs, my husband's motorcycle riding job and our small flock of chickens and goats to sustain our family of six. This venture promises to reinforce our long-term sustainability significantly. The resilience of mango trees against drought will serve as a shield, buffering us from the uncertainties of weather and job fluctuations. By diversifying our sources of income, we aim to create a more reliable and sustainable future for our family. Where we can achieve greater stability and independence."

Gona
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"Some years back I used to work as a motorcycle rider and I loved t I unfortunately had to sop because I felt I was not making enough since I was employed and most of the proceeds went into paying my employer. I did gain an interest in learning how to drive through this. I have been saving up for driving classes. I do not know how much I need but I am saving so that when I inquire I am able to afford it. I saved my entire October and November transfers to build towards this. In December I bought clothes at $10, food at $10 and saved $14 towards my driving school goal."

Hamisi
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"I had bought a motorcycle on loan months before Givedirectly came in as a way of making an income. I have since used a portion of my transfers to help pay out this loan. I use $10 monthly to pay off the loan from the transfers and I did this monthly for the last three months. I also have been trying to rear chicken as a business. I spend a portion of my transfers monthly to purchase them, I spent $12 in October, $9 in November and $6 in December. I bought food monthly, I spent $10 in October and November while in December due the festivities I used the largest amount of $18. In November I bought my child clothes worth $5."

Francis
received a $351 initial payment.
"Upon returning home in the late afternoon with my wife, following an exhausting day toiling on the farm in preparation for the impending rains, we finally took a moment to unwind. As my wife held my phone, its buzz brought forth a message that filled her with immense joy: GiveDirectly had graced us with a generous contribution. Passing the phone to me, I confirmed this delightful news, and together, we expressed profound gratitude and celebrated with joyous dancing.
I am a boda boda rider, and this is our sole source of income. I bought the motorcycle on credit, and therefore, the little that I earn, i.e., approximately $25 a day, needs to cater for both our family needs and repaying the motorcycle loan, which is very difficult. I live with my wife and three children, who all look up to me for the provision of their needs. We live in a house that looks like a shack, which is not conducive for the little ones to live in. Building a house was my first project, and I finished paying off the loan. But now that we got the money from GiveDirectly, my first thought was providing my family with a decent house conducive to our little ones."

Anderson
received a $22 tenth payment.
"I have wanted to build on the animals I own. I would never have owned goats had it not been for Givedirectly. I now own 6 goats in addition to chicken and ducks. I want to buy more animals. For me animals are like an emergency fund. If I get an emergency whether its school fees, or someone being sick I can sell an animals get the money depending on how much is needed. I want to add more animals and increase my security for money."

Erick
received a $22 twenty-second payment.
"I am a father of one and my wife is a housewife. I run a motorcycle business. My business proceeds have reduced due to increased fuel prices that forced us to increase our transport charges which in turn reduced the number of people who are willing to pay the much we ask for the services we provide. The transfers I have been receiving have been majorly directed to pay for food debts and also buying food. In October I paid debts for the food I had taken from a local shop of $13 and bought food for $21. In November I spent $10 on food and paid $21 to till my land, the remaining $4 bought a chicken. During the festivities $19 bought food while the remaining $15 I bought new clothes for my child."

Karisa
received a $23 twenty-first payment.
"As I said I started saving to build a new house in April. I now have enough money to buy iron sheets which is about $120. I am now saving for the building poles I need to finish with the construction. I had married but my wife left due to a disagreement hence I am left alone. I am building a one roomed house which will be made out of mud and iron sheets. I know this will be a big upgrade from my paper roof house and will withstand the harsh weather conditions that we have been experiencing lately."

Arnold
received a $23 twenty-second payment.
"My primary goal with the cash transfers is to invest in the education of my children. Two of them are currently in high school, and by the time the transfers conclude, they will have completed their high school education. Over the next three years, I plan to utilize the cash transfers primarily to cover their school fees. The income from my motorbike taxi business is insufficient to support the education of all seven children, making the cash transfers a crucial resource in sustaining their educational journey. I am extremely grateful to GiveDirectly for its impactful charity efforts, providing support that I have not witnessed elsewhere."
