"With the roof of my house repaired, I am now focused on securing my financial sustainability, especially for the future when this program comes to an end. I have been saving my previous transfers from GiveDirectly in our local savings group, and my plan is to continue saving a portion of my future transfers so that when they mature, I can use the funds to buy goats. I am hopeful that these goats will multiply and increase in number and value, allowing me to trade them for cows in the future. I believe that the cows will also multiply and provide a substantial source of income to help address any challenges my family may face. Being a livestock farmer has always been my dream, as I believe livestock can be a significant source of wealth that will support my family when we encounter needs that require a considerable amount of money."

"I am glad that through GiveDirectly transfers, I have managed to buy five goats so far. This is a significant achievement in my life. I depend on burning and selling charcoal to raise income to support my children. Since my spouse also does not have a reliable income, I have to struggle hard to make ends meet. These transfers have relieved me from the financial burden of providing for my family's basic needs, allowing me to focus on long-term goals.
Given that the transfers have a specific timeframe and will eventually come to an end, I decided to invest in livestock, specifically goat rearing. In the coming year and beyond, I plan to continue using my transfers to invest in goats, as this is my future financial investment. Since goats multiply quickly, I intend to sell some once I obtain a good number and use the proceeds to buy a cow.
I want to buy cows for milk production because they will provide milk for both domestic and commercial use, and their waste can be used as fertilizer. This diversified investment strategy will help ensure a stable and sustainable income for my family in the future."

"My accomplishment in the coming year is to invest heavily in purchasing goats. Goats are cheaper and easier to rear, especially during harsh climatic conditions. Unlike cows, goats can easily survive these harsh conditions. As I purchase more goats, I am optimistic they will multiply, thereby increasing my initial investment. This is a good way to help me become financially independent even after the expiry of the cash transfer support. I am very happy and appreciative of the financial support, which has elevated my life status and made me self-dependent."

"Givedirectly has made me dream beyond what my earnings from my nanny job would allow me to. I have joined two savings group, one to allow me access to small loans where I save $5 and another one for big projects which does annual distribution of our savings to us members where I save $10. I want to use the proceeds of the savings group to which we save $10 to buy goats and cows which for me will create a great source of alternate income for my family and I."

"I have already bought six goats two have already given birthWith five children all attending school, the weight of responsibility feels heavier than ever. That's why I've been pondering a plan that might just lift some of that burden off our shoulders. I'm thinking of starting to raise goats soon. It might sound simple, but I believe it could be our ticket to a less stressful life. If I have goats, I'll have a safety net; I can sell them in case of emergencies, whether it's covering bills or paying for my children's school fees. It's about creating a cushion for my family and ensuring I am not constantly teetering on the edge of financial strain. With this plan, I hope to bring a sense of stability and security to my household, allowing me to focus on nurturing my children's futures without the constant worry of making ends meet.for fee and supporting my chilren-remembrance to my cash-sell some and a cow for land cultivation"

"After my previous house collapsed, I was determined to build a new home for my family since we did not have a place to sleep. Thanks to the transfers I've been receiving from GiveDirectly, I've been able to make significant progress on this project, and I am thrilled to see my house taking shape, with only the roofing left to complete. We are currently living in the incomplete house with the makeshift roofing as I work towards its completion. Currently, my plan is to continue using the transfers to finish the roofing and provide my family with a secure and comfortable living space. Once the house is complete, my plan is to continue using the transfers to buy more goats. My hope is that these goats will multiply and increase in number and value over time. Eventually, I plan to trade the goats for cows, which will be a game-changer for my farming efforts because they will ease the physical strain I experience during farm preparation, especially when it comes to plowing. This will also allow me to hire out the cows to plow other people's farms, creating an additional income stream for my family. This is something I've always wanted to do, as it will provide a sustainable way to support my loved ones. I am grateful for the support I've received from GiveDirectly, as it has given me the means to build a better future for my family."

"My current house is small, rusty, and on the verge of collapsing, which has led me to think deeply about my living situation. Building a two-room house has always been my dream, and I am determined to make it a reality. Although I don't have a lot of money to build it right now, I have started saving my transfers through our local savings group. Once the savings mature, I plan to use those funds to construct a warm and comfortable two-room house, just as I have always envisioned. After achieving this goal, I intend to continue saving my transfers to purchase two bulls and an ox-driven plow so that I may use them to plow my farm. At my age, plowing the fields by hand has become exhausting, and I can no longer manage it alone. The cows will not only help me with my farming, but when a chance arises, I will hire them out to plow other people's farms, providing an additional source of income for my family. This way, I can create a sustainable future for myself and my loved ones."

"I used to raise goats until my two children needed to attend secondary school. To afford their education, I had to sell eight of my goats. Now, thanks to transfers from GiveDirectly, I have one goat that I bought in July 2024. My goal before the year ends is to purchase three to four more goats. I believe in investing in goats because they can multiply easily and are simple to sell. They also offer flexibility, as I can exchange them for dairy cows. With cows, I can increase my income by selling milk and using some for our family. With my current business of selling dried sisal and the additional income from transfers, I am confident I can save enough to expand my goat herd as planned. This investment will not only secure my family's future but also provide opportunities for growth and stability."

Dama

"I have always had a plan to become a livestock farmer and create wealth through livestock. My intention was to use my transfers to buy goats, but circumstances have changed due to the drought. The rains did not come, and all our efforts on the farms dried up under the scorching sun and very strong winds, leaving us with nothing to harvest. We are now faced with hunger, and almost every cent that I receive goes towards buying food. My current plan is to keep using a portion of my transfers to buy food to sustain my family and ensure we don't go hungry. Until the rains come and we get some good harvests and have food security, I will then divert my transfers to buy goats, hoping they will multiply and increase in number. I then plan to trade them for female cows, which will also multiply. In the future, I will sell some of these cows to take care of my family and fund my children's education. I am determined to stick to my long-term goal of becoming a successful livestock farmer, but for now, my priority is to ensure my family's immediate needs are met by providing food during this difficult time. I remain hopeful that the rain will come soon, allowing me to resume my plans to invest in livestock and create a sustainable source of income for my family."

"This year, I set out to buy building materials to improve my house, which is made of mud. My goal is to reinforce it with bricks and cement to make it stronger and better able to withstand the extreme weather conditions in our area. I plan to continue using my transfers to purchase materials until I can complete the reinforcement. Once this is achieved, I will be very happy, as it has been my dream all along. Thereafter, I also plan to use my transfers to buy goats, hoping they will multiply and increase in number and value. This will allow me to trade them for cows, which I need for milk and for plowing my farm. I envision these cows multiplying as well, serving as a form of insurance for my grandchildren’s education. If necessary, I could sell some of them to fund their schooling."
