Michael received a $523 second payment.
"The biggest difference is that I used the transfer to clear my son's school fees without which he would have been among the young school dropouts in our village that engage in minor offenses. I have been able to improve my earnings because I invested part of the transfer in my tailoring business. I also have a big house to accommodate my guests and I am happy that it is more dignified house that I would have not built because most of my income would only be able to feed the family."

"I have been stress-free since I received these transfers, paying school fees is not a challenge as it was before. this is because did not have a reliable source of income since I relied on casual jobs whose pay was less than KES 100 a day. My son also has a place to sleep unlike before since I used the transfers to build him a house. He now has a place to study really well and his performance has greatly improved. I am a very proud mother. i also have enough furniture that i bought through the tranfers, my home is the best place at the moment and i can host visitors at ease."

Kennedy received a $22 twelfth payment.
"Taking a loan from the merry-go-round was an obvious thing to me and at times, I could be forced to use profits from my business so as to educate my firstborn son. All this could be stressful especially when I was required to repay the amount. Right now, this has changed and so far it is the biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months because I managed to pay his school fees easily and he has settled well in school."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of stable source of income. As a primary school pupil,I had to drop out of school to sell water and work in construction sites to raise my school fees and food.I would not wish my children to go through the same now that Iam a parent hence the desire to have my own business that would generate enough money to pay school fees, buy food and cater for other basic needs."

"I can now feed my family n pay my children's school fees with much ease. Before I never used to earn much from the work I was doing, but now with the money, I can pay their school fees and am happy to see them educated. My family can now eat chapati when they want before we could only smell it from neighbours as they cooked, now we eat with no limits. i can now sleep in a warm house before it was quite cold and not so comfortable, I have also been able to buy a television, earlier my children used to watch television at our neighbours' house and it was shameful. My business is doing so well, i have added more stock and as a result, more customers are coming to my shop.My request is that when GiveDirectly gets more money please come back and support us."

"GiveDirectly has done well to improve the lives of the people. I have seen some constructing houses, buying livestock and investing in new businesses. I have personally progressed and I am very grateful. I have invested in livestock farming and I am able to provide my family with milk as well as selling the surplus to my neighbours. I have been able to take my children to school with ease. We have renamed the transfer from GiveDirectly as " school fees" in our village because when we received, it coincided with the opening of schools in our country. In my opinion GiveDirectly has done nothing wrong, other than empowering the lives of the poor in the society."

"My life is now different in that I now own a house, I own livestock, and my children can now stay in school. My children would be chased away from school and stay home even for 3 weeks, but that will not happen now as I have paid their school fees for the whole year and they can now stay in school. My life is now very different."
