"I spent a larger portion of my second transfer on boosting a kiosk business which was almost collapsing. This is what I have been depending own since my spouse passed on some years back. He left behind three children who were both in primary school. It was so difficult for me to clear their school fees on time. Sometimes I could utilize the little profit that I was earning and it reached a point I was using the capital and this made the business to almost collapse. This was really affecting my children because they could be sent home for fees and I had nowhere to get the money. it really affected their academic performance. The remaining amount of money, I cleared school fees for my children. I am now a happy parent because they are studying without any disturbances."

"Having my own dairy cows and goats has made my life to be so different in various ways. First I will be getting milk for free which will be for my family consumption, this will make them be healthier unlike before whereby they were malnutrition because they could not get enough proteins. Apart from that the remaining liters I will be supplying to my neighbors and the local markets and I believe this will improve my living standard. Before the coming of GiveDirectly, In used to buy milk from my neighbors which were costly and sometimes I could not afford it. With the goats, I will start a business of selling the offsprings once they mature and through that I will no longer struggle like before in paying school fees for my children. If it were not for GD coming to my life I would not have achieved all this."

"I spent my transfer on buying a solar which has been my dream in the last year. I always feel it is expensive to buy kerosene everyday especially when my children have to do their homework at night. Sometimes they would not finish their homework when they run out of kerosene. I also used part of the transfer to clear the fees arrears my children had in school so that they may not be sent home again for fees like they used to be sent home before the transfer. The rest I have saved to use in starting a small business which will be my source of income. I have not decided on the kind of business I want to have but I know when I will have made up my mind, I will start one."

"Upon receiving my recent transfers, I spent some on my late husband's funeral. This was inevitable because I had not [planned his death but to God be the Glory. "The fact that I will be owning a tuk-tuk I feel it will bring the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because my spouse has been employed for a couple of years from neighbors and whatever he was earning was too little. We used to strain in meeting the family's basic needs including schooling and their daily meals. We used to borrow foodstuffs from friends like every day and it was very embarrassing. I am now so hopeful that in the next few months, we will settle everything down. This is because whatever my spouse will be earning from the tuk-tuk business will all be ours. I also hope I will no longer strain in paying school fees for my children and also providing their daily meals. I am so grateful to be among the beneficiaries."

"Our financial status is so unstable that it cannot sustain us fully. My husband studies and works part time as a casual labourer. This means he does not have enough money to provide for us. At some point I tried a snacks business to supplement our income but it failed due to lack of enough capital. Therefore, I have left the entire burden on him and it is quite a hustle for us to get the basic needs especially food."

"After receiving the transfers, I have achieved to restock my livestock keeping business. I had spent all the money and sold cattle that I had on hospital bills for my wife. I was glad to be able to own livestock again! Cows are important to me when it comes to paying school fees and feeding my family. I could easily raise school fees by selling some of the animals and also from selling milk. The money from GiveDirectly put me back to the position where I can handle my household responsibilities."

"The financial crisis is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced. This situation has forced me to live a miserable life and most of the time, I feel out of my senses due to the much stress I always encounter. Imagine surviving with a metal plate in the leg that was not even properly fixed with screws! It has limited me to doing heavy jobs like charcoal burning and farming which are the main economic activities in our area. Borrowing and relying on my family members is what I have known since in the last 3 years and this has robed my joy in life." (Occupation: Small business)

"My biggest difference is that y child was able to join secondary school in time as required, with all the needs and without having neither a debt in school or anyone else in the village. It is a miracle in my life is that I have always depended on a small income from coconut business which could not even meet our needs. My life has been a struggle and my children have always studied in struggles of being sent home every now and again. My son almost gave up in continuing with education because he knew I would not afford to meet the needs in time. But with GD transfers, I was able to mee the needs in time comfortably. He is now in school and has never been sent home again.school fees"

"My6 cloth business has been my main source of income for the past two years. It is the reason I have been meeting my basic needs without begging nor borrowing. Since all my needs depended on the profits from the business, the business started deteriorating since I was not investing more in the business. My worry was I was going to lose the only source of income I have always depended on. This is why I chose to continually boost the business by adding more stock to the business on a monthly basis through GD transfers. The fear of losing the business is no more because it has picked up well to an extend I no longer sell on the streets but I have rented a business premise."
