"Last year was very tough for me because of the drought which dominated it. However, December came with good tidings since the rains showered. We had a reason to celebrate as a family. My husband bought chicken which we enjoyed the best meal of the year together as a family. We also had another celebration to welcome the new year together with the larger extended family. The festive season brought me a lot of joy. For a moment, I set aside my troubles to celebrate."

"Receiving this money means the accomplishment of my goals, I had built a two-roomed house but failed to finish it because I lacked the money to buy the rooftop materials. I will buy iron sheets, timber, and nails to finish my house so that I can stay at comfort. I have one child who finished his secondary education and he is still at home, I will enroll him at a technical school to pursue his dream career job. This will make him independent and also help me when in need. With he remaining amount I will buy chickens to rear and sell to my village people to gain revenue and cater for my needs such as medical care and food."

"When I received my first transfer I was very happy because I still live close to my parents and in that particular time lack of food was our major challenge so I spent all the kshs 1200 to buy food which lasted for a week. I have always had an interest in the Mechanical field and so I approached one of my relative who allowed to train me at a fee of kshs 2000 and eventually when am done he promised to employ me.So I started on the Mechanical training and used the remaining kshs 700 to buy food and 1 chicken kshs 300.The third transfer was a blessing to me because it came just in time for the festive season and I was able to buy my child and my siblings some clothes worth kshs 2000 and bought food over Christmas with the remaining kshs 1000."

"The biggest difference in my life is that I have changed my mind set ,before I didn't have any goals because I survive on selling charcoal and my husband is a casual laborer who hardly makes enough to provide even 2 decent meals. Through the years we have not managed to repair our leaking roof but with the funds from GiveDirectly before the year ends a big difference will be seen .Firstly I will build my three roomed house and eventually am planning to buy some chicken and goats."

"It was on Thursday morning after I had aligned all that I had to purchase on the first day. With the first KES7500, I purchased two sacks of maize and 10KG rice that we are still using as foodstuff. After buying milk for such a long time, I also had to buy a dairy cow at KES36000 that provided us with half a liter on the first day that has been improving to the current two liters every morning and another two liters in the evening. I managed to pay tuition fees of KES700 for my children currently in primary school, bought them new clothes worth KES2000, and also bought three chickens with the remaining amount. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for the great support and looking forward to the second transfer that will boost other running projects and even enhance the start of new ones."

"Paying school fees for my four children at the primary level and meeting our daily needs was a hard job for me and this made life unbearable. I was foreseeing a more challenging situation since two of our children are to join high school this year in the month of April. With the goats and chicken that I purchased using the transfer, I have started experiencing financial relief since I am no longer being asked for money to buy a bar of soap or sugar since my wife sells eggs and uses the money to achieve these. Also, I am not stressed about how I will pay school fees for my children to be able to join high school since I will easily sell some goats and chicken and use the money to achieve this and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for making this possible."

"Receiving this money means better education to my 4 children who are still in school, one in secondary school and 3 in primary school. I have fee arrears for the first child, she went to a national school and the fees are KES 90,000 per year. I will clear the balance to ease her learning because I believe education is the key to success. With the second transfer, this will be my time to invest, I will buy 5 goats and 10 chickens for rearing and sell them upon multiplying. I had started a grocery kiosk selling spinach, eggs, and vegetables but collapsed due to a lack of sustainable capital. I will venture into that business again, being sure customers are ready. I will save my profit at any Bank, and in the future, I can borrow a loan to sustain my business."
