Naomi
received a $435 second payment.
"When I started receiving Give Directly transfers, I decided to buy a piece of land so that I can start practicing farming. I was able to complete all the payment and I planted maize and beans that are already doing so well.
With the transfers, I was able to buy one cow as well that is almost conceiving and hopefully, I will start a milk business soon."

"Education is indeed the key to a good life for that is what I desire for my six children. Having not had the chance to go to school, I want my children to have quality education and thereafter pursue careers of their choice. I struggle a lot financially because we rely on casual jobs to earn a living and the $ 120 we earn an average of one month is hardly enough to pay for school fees for our two children in secondary school. We sold all our livestock to pay for education ( fees, school uniforms and books). They are often sent home to collect the money in arrears making them waste a lot of school time and it affects their performance. Receiving this money means they will study full-time at school since I will use the transfers to clear all the arrears. The rest of the money will go into buying goats and one cow. I am thankful to Givedirect for changing my life and that of my family for the better."

"The plan I have with the transfers is to purchase a 5000 liter water tank which I would use to store water. This water will be of great significance since I'll be able to do farm irrigation. I will also purchase a cow at $500 which would provide my household with milk. It would help me a great deal since I wouldn't have to buy milk any more. The water tank will be a good source of water for the cow since I plan to do zero crazing. The remaining amount will be used to purchase the farm products and also grass for the cow I will purchase. The transfers will surely change my life positively."

"During the past 3 years, my late husband was sick. He passed on 7 months ago, we experienced a lot of financial challenges. He needed special medical attention. We bought an oxygen cylinder for $150 after selling a plot of land. We also sold 3 cows and 3 goats to meet his medical needs. This has affected us up to today. I am sad since then we've not been able to till our land. This has affected our food supply."

received a $436 second payment.
"GiveDirectly is doing well because I had nothing before but now am a proud owner of three cows and my neighbors as well have either bought cattle, or goats like I did or built their homes, which is improving our lifestyle here in the village. I also bought a motorcycle which has helped my husband cut down on transport charges as well as earn the family some money whenever it's leased. I would not want the organization to do anything different, but would request that they would consider coming back to the village and enrolling us again."

Sharon
received a $436 second payment.
"Life was unbearable in the village because I had lost my job at a flower farm due to the Covid pandemic. It forced me to return to the upcountry because I could no longer sustain myself in the city. Fortunately, GiveDirectly came to my rescue, where it promised us an unconditional transfer. My husband is a casual labourer and together we have two children. Upon receiving my second transfer, I opted to invest in a dairy cow to reduce the cost of buying milk, which I used for $200. This would enable me to cut down on the cost of milk, which was expensive where Two litres sell at $1. Secondly, I renovated my house with $150 and lastly bought foodstuffs with the remaining amount. The support from the organization amazingly changed my life to a higher one, thus, I am grateful."

"I am incredibly grateful for the assistance that enhanced the lives of the people in our community. Because I was able to realize my objective of owning a dairy cow that would bring in additional cash, it has significantly impacted my life. I haven't encountered any loophole in the program that needed to be corrected throughout my engagement with it."
