"My life has taken a different trajectory because as an elder brother in our family, I have been able to pay school fees for my siblings and helped them continue with their education uninterrupted. My sister is currently doing her bachelors at Mount Kenya University, and I am so proud of her as an elder brother. I have been very supportive to her all along especially when I got the transfers from Give Directly and paid her fees for the entire semester well in advance."

"I spent KES 10000 on the transfer to purchase four goats. These goats to me are a source of wealth. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number and have many of them in the near future. At least I now have assets that I can lean on in case of a dire financial need. Apart from the goats, I also purchased 30 pieces of iron sheets and building poles in order to construct a new house to live in. I have been living in a very small house which I had to squeeze for space so that my own items would be accommodated. I am in the process of constructing a decent house which will be ready in a month. I also paid the mason for his job. In addition to this, I paid KES 5000 for my children's school fees for them to be allowed back to school. Lastly, I bought foodstuffs for my family and other household expenses"

"My biggest hardship is inadequate source of income. My family benefits a lot from farming but it is not enough. I can not pay school fees for my children and neither can it complete construction of my permanent house towards a better living standard."

"Receiving this money means acquiring livestock in form of animals that will act as Income generating activity for my household. When they multiply, I will sell some for paying school fees for my children while some will remain as an investment. My current situation is reliant on farming in order to make sure that my children receive quality education."

"My life is currently different from the way it was four months ago in that I was able to construct a better house and at the same time catered for my children's needs without straining. I can't imagine I was able to pay for their school fees and still built a four-roomed house. I really thank Give Directly for allowing me to achieve these goals at the same time without taking loans or selling any of my valuable assets."

"My top concern is my family because I have been unable to sustain them with their daily needs from the little income I get from construction sites. I rely so much in construction and at times it depends whether there is work or not. At times I come back home without money and this gives me alot of stress knowing my family will have to sleep hungry. I normally result to beg at times but not everyone is interested to help me. Sometimes I fear that I may lose my family if I don't provide for their upkeep, pay rent or pay school fees to my children which will render me hopeless. I may also be thrown out of my house for failure of paying rent. I may be forced to go to upcountry or result to engage in criminal activities to make ends meet."

"Fetching water in our household had been really tedious work before receiving the transfers from Givedirectly. We had been working over long distances to find the only source of water which was serving the whole community. The situation would worsen during drought seasons since we would find very long queues in the spring but it has been a relieve since we received the transfers which we decided to spend part of it on buying a large water tank which will act as a reservoir collecting water during rainy seasons. We also used part of the transfer on paying school fees for my son who is currently in college, we bought clothing for all the members of the household and used the remaining amount on buying foodstuff."

"There is a big difference in my life because I managed to pay my child's school fees in time. The transfers also facilitated agricultural activities and I am hopeful of getting good harvest come the season. Prior to receiving this money, my child could not stay at school due to lack of finacial support."

"GiveDirectly has done well giving me money that has enabled me to build an iron sheet roofed house, acquire household items like utensils, mattresses, pay school fees. I don't see anything it hasn't done well in my opinion."
