"Providing for my child in college is one sure way of securing his future. I have managed to sufficiently pay for his rental room and also money for upkeep over the last four months using the money I get from GiveDirectly. The difference in my life is that my shop has not been severely affected unlike before when I had to close the shop whenever I paid for his school fees and rent. This is because the shop business is my only source of income and therefore the only place I could draw money from. In addition to the profits from the shop, the GiveDirectly transfers have stabilized my family income. I am able to keep my child well in school and also meet my family's needs using the money I get form shopkeeping that is sustained by restocking with the transfers. I am so happy that my son is okay and doing well at school."

"My life is different from how it would in that I was able to pay school fees arrears that had accumulated over time. It had reached a point where we were planning to sell a piece of our land to cater for all the expenses I had. I can't express my joy for retaining my piece of land because of the help I receive from Give Directly. I am glad that my son would be finishing school next year, this means my expenses will have reduced and I will have enough money to start other projects before I think of taking him to college."

"My life is different in that I was already planning to sell a piece of land in order to pay my children's school fees. I had tried all means of getting the money that would enable me to pay my children's school fees but in vain. So the idea of selling a piece of my land came in. But just in time, Give Directly came in and I was able to save my land. I am also a proud owner of an Ironed roofed house for the first time! Owning such a house was only a dream for me and I am happy that Give Directly made it a possibility."

"Receiving this money means buying oxen that I will use to support in opening land for crop cultivation. I will sell part of the produce for paying my children's school fees and the balance will be consumed at home. Currently, I hire bulls which is very costly and even then, you will get when it is very late for the season."

"My life is currently different from how it was four months ago in that I have been able to lease a farm. I have planted some beans on this farm and I am now glad hoping for a good harvest since it is my first time to venture into farming. I will sell them after harvesting and use the money in supporting my mother by paying school fees for my siblings."

"I am a person living with disabilities and I cannot do some casual work, for instance, going to the farm. Due to this, my wife has been the breadwinner to our family. Recently, her mother fell sick and she had to go back to her maternal home so that she can attend to her. For this period, I have been the one to cater for all my family needs and in paying school fees for my children. My transfers have come in handy as I use it to pay school fees for my children and in buying food for the family. Being able to provide for my family basic needs on time despite the fact that the only work I can do is to look after the livestock is the biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer."

"I finally managed to build a house through the money I got from Give Directly. This wouldn't possible to build any time soon since I couldn't afford to raise money for constructing a house. Apart from that, I am happy that I was able to pay school fees for my child who is secondary school. My child had been sent home for school fees because I did not have a reliable source of income to enable me to pay his school fees. He had stayed home for two weeks and I was afraid he would perform poorly because he had missed several lessons. I thank God I finally managed to clear his fee balance and he can now study without being interrupted."

"Currently, my house is beautiful as I managed to buy household items to beautify my house. I also managed to buy building materials that I used to build a new kitchen. I have a good place to prepare meals for my family as i used to cook in a smaller one which at some point i shared with my poultry which was not so hygienic. My child is also in school and I do not have to worry about him being sent home as I have cleared teh school fees arrears in time."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have built an iron sheet roofed kitchen for my family. I am planning to achieve this by buying the building materials in bits every month using my transfers. I wish to build an Iron roofed kitchen because of the dangers that come with cooking in a grass thatched kitchen. Grass thatched houses are usually cheap but very risky as it can catch fire easily. I feel lucky because I can now afford to build it through the help I get from GiveDirectly. In addition to this, I am optimistic that I will have cleared paying school fees for my children thus they will not be sent back home from school."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will be having enough sleep. This is because my commitments will have reduced hence I will not be overworking myself as I will have cleared paying school fees for my son who is in his final year in secondary school education. I am planning to stop doing casual work which majorly includes picking tea in other peoples farms so that I can concentrate on my own farm."
