Samson received a $518 second payment.
"I used the second transfers on buying new iron sheets which I used to build a new house. I initially used to live in my grandmother's house because I could not raise the amount of money needed to build such a house like the one I have today. Apart from that, I also spent a portion of the money to cultivate my four acres piece of land where I planted maize, beans, and tomatoes. I did this project on a large scale and I can say that the harvest was so overwhelming. When I sold part of what I harvested, I was able to raise the total amount of school fees that my child required to join University."

"I spent the most recent transfers on paying my school fees arrears both at my former high school and my current college institution. I had to part ways with a whopping amount of 27000 KES. I also bought a few household items for my mother which included buying her new utensils and a brand new TV set. I also bought a few items which I use at my hostel on a day to day basis. Household items such as utensils, TV for news. Whatever remained after all the expenses had been met, went into the purchase of food and other daily school needs."

"Receiving this money means that my living standards will greatly improve in that i plan to buy two dairy cattle since cattle rearing is favourable in our locality and the returns are higher compared to crop farming. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy some sheep for rearing so that in future i can sell them when they multiply to pay school fees for my brothers who will soon join high school."

"My life is different in that first, I have completed my saloon and cosmetics course which I began six months ago through the financial support from GiveDirectly. I can now open my own saloon as I have the required skills. I am now looking for capital to open the saloon. Also, the transfer has helped me to pay for my children's school fees, thus relieving me of some costs which I would have otherwise spent a lot."

Lyjenely received a $249 second payment.
"In the last four months, I am happy because my children were not sent home for school fees as usual. This is because of GD transfers. In my own capacity and my small income from casual work, I would have not been able to raise the money needed to pay their fees arrears in time. This is because I only depended on income from casual work which is not only very little but also inconsistent."

"The biggest hardship I face is lack of money for paying school fees. My children are bright but Iam unable to raise money for educating them hence they have ended up being school drop outs. This I believe will definitely force them engage in to earlier marriages."

"I spent part of my first transfer to construct a new house. I bought some iron sheets as I had other materials which I had bought before. In addition to that, I also bought utensils, seats and some clothes for my children. I am left with KES 19000 which I plan to spend on paying school fees for my child who is in secondary school. I thank Give Directly for giving me the means to do all these without taking loans or having to sell some of my valuable assets."
