"The cash transfers offloaded the debt burden that I had. More so, we paid our children's school fees. This was a very bug challenge to us. We did not have any income generating activity besides agriculture which was unpredictable. I can only appreciate GiveDirectly for the cash transfers and my prayer is that may GiveDirectly live forever."

"The additional goal in my life for the next months is to save some money to use in paying school fees for my son who will be joining a tertiary institution this year. It has always been my prayer to see all of my children become successful in life and God has answered my prayer as my last born son will be joining university this year under government sponsorship."

"In the last four months, my life is different from how it would have been in that my children are always in school. Before the transfers, my children were been sent home every month because I could not be able to keep up paying in time. This is because I do not have any source of income. I only depend on farming activities to sustain my family needs. This could not give much to help me meet all my demands hence I would fail to pay school fees for my children in time. With this transfer, I was able to clear the balance of the fee and they have never been sent home again for the same."

"I spent the cash transfers on paying my house rent which is normally 3000 KES every month. I also paid school fees for my child who is currently in class six. After making expenditures on the two items, I remained with one thousand shillings which I used to buy food for my kids."

"My life has taken a different trajectory because today, paying school fees for my children has become a very easy thing for me unlike how I used to struggle so much in the past. I also find it easy taking care of other financial needs of the house such as buying food for the family without having to dig much deeper into my pockets. Like I said before, I have always wanted to expand the size of my business but then due to lack of capital capacity, my business has always dragged a lot, but today things have changed for the good."

"Within the past few months, I have managed to tile the living room of my house which now looks quite presentable and beautiful. Even though I have not yet completed tilling the entire house, I already have a sense of achievement whenever I get compliments on how wonderful my house looks. I have also managed to pay most of my children's school fees and they have not been sent away from school for failure to pay their school fees on time as was mostly the case in the previous months."

"My life is different from how it would have been four months ago in that I have livestock of my own. I used part of these transfers to buy a sheep which I am keeping as an investment for me. I know it will reproduce and when the number has increased, I will be able to sell some to raise money to pay for my school fees."

"The biggest difference in my daily life ever since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly is that I an now able to comfortably pay school fees for my child who is in secondary school. Being that I am a tout, I sometimes lack the money to pay school fees since this job is unreliable. My child would definitely drop out of school and I would have failed him as a parent. Once I started receiving transfers from Give Directly I joined a merry go round to with an intention to save my monthly income. I can now comfortably pay my child's school fees through the saved money. I always feel happy when I see my child everyday go to school just like the rest of the students in the village. I can't thank Give Directly enough for helping me do this."

"In the last four months, my life is different in that I have a house of my own now. I had not imagined I could be having a house by now. This is because I only depended on my brother for everything. I am still a student and only focuses on paying my school fees. With GD transfers I was able to pay school fees and be able to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timber, and nails which I used in building my own house."

"I used the last transfers on paying my school fees amounting to around 20000 and paying my hostel rental requirements amounting to around 10000 KES. I also used the money to pay our rent back here in Mathare where I have been living with my brother. The rental charges at this place are normally approximately 3000 KES every month. What remained after all the above expenditures went into taking care of our daily needs such as food and transport expenditures to various destinations within the city."
