"I spent some good amount of the first transfer to buy building materials such as poles and iron sheets for the construction of a new house. I previously lived in an old grass-thatched hut that would leak whenever there was a downpour. This made our stay very uncomfortable. I am glad we now live in a new semi-permanent house. I also bought some household items such as a bed and a mattress. I used the rest of the transfer to clear my children's school fees, bought two goats for rearing and enough food for my family that would last us for a while, especially now that we haven't harvested much from our farms for while. I am grateful for Give Directly."

"In my own opinion, I think what GD did in our village was so amazing, it is something that we have never seen before. People bought a lot of livestock and built houses for their families while others were able to pay school fees for their kids very comfortably."

"I spent part of my first transfer to buy a dairy cow for KES 16500. It has always been my desire for a long period of time to own one but due to my financial status, I could not afford it and when I finally got this money, I was able to fulfill my heart's desire. I also bought school uniforms and paid school fees for my five children. Their previous uniforms were old and torn and they were always sent home to collect school fees and this was affecting their academic performance. I used the rest of the transfer to start a business where I would buy goats in my village and selling them in the local market every Wednesday for a profit."

"Owning the five goats is the biggest difference in my daily life so far. I am hoping very soon they will multiply because currently, some have started reproducing. My wish is to exchange the offsprings for a dairy cow, this is because the dairy cow is very expensive and I could not afford to purchase it in the first place when the first transfer came since I had some other needs to cater to. I hope that when I buy a dairy cow I will be getting milk from it, for my family consumption and also for sale. Thus, I will get an income that will help me in paying school fees for my children and also cater to some other basic needs for my family."

"I used the second transfers to buy seven goats which I added to the ones I already purchased using the first transfers. These goats will be a big addition to my flock of livestock which I already own. Apart from the livestock, I also managed to pay school fees and cleared the outstanding debts that we had by then. Whatever remained went into the purchase of food for the family."

"Currently, my life is different from how it was in that I am able to take care of my children's fees with ease. I normally do casual jobs like construction work and getting them is always a hustle. The little that I could get could go towards taking care of everything including paying food and paying school fees. Sometimes, my children used to go to school without food because I could use the money that I got to pay their fees which could not also not enough. I can only thank GiveDirectly for reducing my burden and keeping my children in school."

"I spent the cash on paying my Sacco savings contributions where I have been remitting a contribution of Kes 3000 every month. I remained with two thousand shillings that went into the payment of school fees for my child who had arrears of Kes 4500. I had to top up the arrears using my own money in order for the kid to be allowed to be in school on a fulltime basis without being sent away due to school fees arrears."

"My life is better than before because I have solar for lighting, my utensils protected in cupboard. In addition, I have no more stress due to school fees demand. Before, I used kerosene for lighting increasing the risk of burning property, rats damaging my utensils, and the stress of looking for money to clear school fees demanded."
