"I am a mother of 10 children. Providing food for my family was the greatest challenge. Without employment and my husband working as a motorcycle taxi driver, feeding our family satisfactorily was demanding. The burden was relieved when I started receiving money from GiveDirectly. I used the recent transfer to buy food. Being a festive season, I bought food ( maize flour, rice, wheat flour) in bulk. My children were very happy. They celebrated like the rest households in the community."

"In my opinion, Givedirectly does well by giving us unconditional transfers because for me it will enable me to achieve one of my dreams that I have had and it also help me to buy food for my family which we did not have." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"GiveDirectly did well because they uplifted the lives of many. I was able to purchase a motorcycle on hire purchase and a power saw machine. I hence no longer rely on casual employment to earn a living. The lives of the people in my community changed for the better since they were able to make many developments. Most people used to live in grass-thatched houses but they now live in houses that are roofed with iron sheets. I therefore urge them to continue with the same spirit of helping the needy."

"I work as a motorcyclist. I used to borrow a motorcycle which I worked with then by the end of the day I get to have a take home which I will use for my family's upkeep. This did not help me make much as there were days, I wasn't able to get anyone offering to lend me their motorcycle. So, in September 2021, I joined a chama that gave motorcycles for hire purchase. I got to make the deposit is ksh15000 using my savings. I have been making weekly payments of ksh2700 that is to go for 1year 6months. The funds from give directly I substituted it to what I have to pay for the loan. This has made it easy for me in meeting my weekly payments."

"Receiving this money means a specious and better house for my family. The one we are currently is small and cannot accommodate my family of 3 . Whenever we have a visitor, we feel embrassed because the it acts as both the kitchen and bedroom. A year ago, we bought building materials but midway we lacked money. From the motorcycle I ride, I earn KES 300 that is enough to meet my family basic needs and I can save as little as KES 100 per day. We will use KES 40,000 to purchase building materials and meet labour costs. I am excited because I will own a two-roomed house eventually." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"I am employed in motorcycle taxi business as a rider but my wish has always been to own a motorcycle. I separated with my wife a month ago because I was unable to fend for my family. I earn KES 200 on market days but the other days are hard as I operate in the rural areas. I was excited on hearing Givedirectly is visiting my village and it means a better life to me. I want to buy a second hand motorcycle with KES 42,000. This will increase my daily earning by KES 300 hence a stable income." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"I got involved in a motorcycle accident two years ago , this ripped me off my income because I depended on the business to earn a living. It left me with a broken hip that I am still nursing up to date. Life has never been thes same again because my wife who does casual jobs is forced to provide for our family of 9 all by herself. It's hardly enough to cater for my medication and pay for monthly insurance of KES 500 per month. I plan on spending KES 50,000 to pay for medical bills and the rest of the money I will buy a dairy cow. I feel relieved because Givedirectly will help lift this heavy burden from us. My health will improve and I get get back on my feet again upon receiving this money."
