"Many things have happened in my life since I first got the transfers from GiveDirectly. Among them was improvement of what it already exist while others are what started just after receiving the transfers. These have really brought a lot of differences in my life. The biggest difference in my daily life is the booming shop-business I established after receiving both transfers. It has been doing well, earning me a good profit enough to meet all the household requirement and also pay school fees for my children. I am much grateful that I managed to be part of this program. "

"In the next four months I have a new goal to construct fences around the compound in preparation to obtain a good breed of a cow for rearing. Initially we had vows but school fees payment robbed us of all our breeds. We are now looking forward to starting up again since our children are soon completing their studies and we have been able to save some money towards the same."

"Supporting my son's education who is in form 3 now has been my biggest ambition. Currently, I am facing a lot of challenges in paying his school fees because his father is sick and we mostly spend money on paying his hospital bills. My plan when I receive the cash grant from GiveDirectly is to pay the school fees and I intend to use $150 to clear the arrears. The remaining amount will help me to buy 2 indigenous dairy cows that can multiply with time and I also plan to buy an ox plough since I already have an oxen to help me upscaling my farming."

"The biggest difference in my life since I received my transfers from GD is that I was able to help my mother build a kitchen. My mother kept on talking about building a new kitchen over and over again. It was her desire to build a new kitchen where we could sleep since we used to sleep at our neighbour's house. It was a risk on our lives walking at night and this was my mother's biggest fear. When I received my first transfer, I used it to pay school fees and the rest I used on buying building materials such as iron sheets and nails. We have used the materials to build a kitchen. I feel so proud of myself for having helped out my family."

"Expanding my already existing business is a life changer . I restocked items in my shop both by adding up what was almost drying out and bringing in other new stock which customers have been asking for. I made this a priority since in most cases we had been so much dependent on the outcome as it has been serving both the household requirements, school fees and also part of the savings we are making have been from the shop. Thanks to GiveDirectly for enhancing the sustainability of out main source of income."

"My spouse is the sole provider for a family of ten. However, his job doesn't have consistent income and he earns as little as 300 in a day. Since we live from hand to mouth it is impossible to save as the money keeps on flowing. This has resulted into us not getting enough provision when it comes to family needs which include food, clothes, medical and school fees. In the past week all my children got a malaria attack and it was a very tough scenario. Seeking medical help was a challenge because of lack of finances. Some even had to share the drugs and we still have a debt of 450 shillings at the hospital. All these problems are caused by financial instability which is my biggest hardship."

"The second transfer which we received from GD we spend some on paying school fees for our children. At the time when we received our transfers our child had been sent home for school fees and we had no money at that time. When we got the cash we felt relived and manage to pay his school fees for the whole year. The other portion we spend on buying building materials for constructing a bigger house. We had constructed a kitchen with a bedroom adjacent to it with our first transfers."

"My children would not have been able to sit for their examinations had it not have been for the transfers that I received. This would have left them devastated since they are almost through with their college education. As a parent, I would not be a happier knowing well that my children missed their examinations because I could not get money to use in paying their school fees."

"My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer in that, I have been able to clear the school fees arrears for my children. Due to this, they have never been sent back home since the beginning of the year as I have had enough time to look for this terms school fees. This has enabled them to concentrate on their studies and I believe that their performance will improve."
