"My life is currently different in that I now have my own cart business that has changed my life a great deal. I make more income from my cart business and I am raising a happier family than the one that I raised before I received GiveDirectly funds. I can now pay school fees easily from the income I make. I also bought a cow that has given us enough milk for local consumption while we also sell the surplus to meet other family needs."

"I used to sell charcoal to earn my daily revenue. This was never a guarantee hence on some days I was forced to go without food with my entire family. Since the first transfer was used entirely in house construction, I decided to invest the second one to enhance sustainability even after receiving all the transfers. I bought a motorcycle which my husband uses for the taxi business. This has helped us earn revenue daily. The remaining amount I paid school fees for my children."

"If I could not have received the money from Give directly I could not have managed to put up a nice spacious house and I am sure I could still be staying in a squeezed house that I was staying before. I am glad I am now staying in a house where I am able to buy households and stay comfortably like other people. Besides that I can also pay school fees for my children and they are now attending school consistently with minimal interactions."

"I had suffered for long spend a lot of energy and resources going for water at far. I made sure this stops or reduced by buying a 1500litre capacity water tank. I went a head to purchase two heifers worth KES20000 as a way of investing part of my transfer. I feel great to have added such assets in my farm. In addition, I used KES25000 to clear my children school fees. Education is the best gift I can offer my children and paying their fee on time was the best way to prove it."

"I believe education is the key to make my children's life better thus I have to persist overwhelming needs to make sure that I pay their fee. I majorly depend on casual jobs and subsistence farming to raising an income to support ever-rising pressing family needs. I had seen myself lucky to have my children in school and colleges but raising their fees had been a big struggle for me with the limited resources I have. When I received GiveDirectly transfers, I was able to pay my children school fees. Currently, I am happy and hopeful since GiveDirectly has given me a handy hand to realize my goal."

"I had build my own house part of my first transfer but I couldn't build one for my children since the resources was not enough. When I received my second transfer, I took KES15000 to build a house. I feel so good when I see them happy in their new house. I took another KES 20000 to pay school fees for my children. It is my happiness to see them in school knowing that this their best way to build their future. In addition, I used KES5000 on clothing and the remaining amount I spent on my households daily needs."

"I primarily depend on subsistence farming to see my family through. I have children in various schools and my biggest ambition is to see them prosper in their education to allow them to have a better life in the future. Raising their school fees is challenging for me due to the limited resources in our family. Currently adding a cow to my herd with an aim that once they reproduce, I will have milk for both household consumption and sales gives me a the biggest difference in my daily life. I will have offsprings which to me I can always depend on in case of any financial crisis more so to raise my children's education fee and any other household necessity arising. To me having these two heifers in my compound is the biggest difference in my daily life. It gives hope that I can always provide for my family."

"I spent part of my second transfer to pay for my children's school fees. They are now comfortably in school having cleared the arears. I also spent a portion of the money to purchase some building materials in order to build a new house. My previous house was on a very bad state. Thus I bought enough building materials that include iron sheets, building poles and nails. I also paid for the labour. I spent the remaining amount to buy foodstuffs and paying for other household expenses."

"I did not have a pair of oxen and during the planting season, I was hiring from my neighbours and paying for the services. I am currently using my own pair of oxen to plough my farm. I no longer have to hire from anyone. I also cleared school fees for my children on time and they are in school unlike before when they would be sent home for failing to pay for them on time."

"We have been able to build new houses as well as owning livestock, and also our children are comfortably in school having paid for them school fees. We achieved all these through GiveDirectly, which in my opinion has reduced the level of poverty we were in. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly has not done well."
